Teeth whitening could be perceived by many as an intimidating process! Simply because they don’t understand the process that gets teeth whiter …
… They are also intimidated by the fact that in-office whitening by a cosmetic professional would cost thousands of dollars! And they probably should be, especially that not so many people can afford those numbers.
Here where come the mistakes that most people do:
- They don’t do anything about it and let their teeth stained and probably decayed.
- Or, they go for cheap whitening techniques and/or products that can easily damage their teeth to say it the least.
I am not saying here that you should break the bank to achieve your whitening goals, but I am just saying that you need to know what you are doing.
What I want you to start with is by understanding what makes teeth look yellowish, these include:
- Colored elements like sweeties, cola and
- Acidic elements like coffee
- Leaving food on your month without cleaning it.
- Drinking Alcohol
- Some kinds of medications like antibiotics
As you can see, most of the causes I’ve just list are controllable! In other words, you can stop drinking alcohol for example and notice your teeth look much better a couple of week later! This applies for Smoking, colored elements and acidic nutrients like coffee.
So, I guess that now you understand that the first thing you should do is to avoid what’s causing the stain. By doing so, I ensure you’ve done at least 50% of the workload you should of done to whiten your teeth.
If you don’t stop the causes of the stain, then any whitening effort won’t be that effective and will be just a waste of time!
So, are you going to stop the stains cause? If the answer is yes, then let’s move on to the next step …
… Actually whitening your teeth!
For this there are 3 options:
Using at home teeth whitening home remedies
For this you need to be really careful! I mean there are a ton of remedies that you can use, like activated charcoal, baking soda, apple cider vinegar, and so on.
The issue is that you should be aware that most of these are abrasive and could hurt your enamel.
That’s why using them in moderation is extremely important.
Going for over the counter whitening products
Here there are ton of options, including whitening pens, whitening gel, whitening strips and even whitening kits which is a combination of all of these.
Here you need to follow the vendor instructions to the T in order to make sure that you won’t cause any bad things to your teeth.
Actually aiming for cosmetic dentist
To be honest, I don’t recommend this unless you have something bad going on with your teeth. Something that looks really awful that you can’t solve by yourself.
Also, be prepared to pay some money, indeed, these interventions don’t come cheap, so you need to have access to a significant budget.
