SINGLE REVIEW: Little Miss America by Josh Orange

Little Miss America is the new release for Sydney based indie alt-rock band Josh Orange. It comes after the outstanding response to their previous hit I Will Follow which garnered a lot of radio action and streaming playlist love. Little Miss America is yet another stand-out song, taken from their much-anticipated forthcoming album Midnight Lights due out early in 2021. Josh Orange, whose members are Gordon Burke (vocals/acoustic/keys), Andrew Wass (guitars/vocals), Blaine Munnings (bass guitar), Alex Miller (drums) and Shane McLaughlin (guitars) has released three albums, Songs for the Journey, Big Day Tomorrow and Eyes Wide Open and has also won wide acclaim including winning the rock category prize in 2015’s The Great American Song Contest. Little Miss America is a lyrical, poetic exploration of human connection inspired by acute and intuitive observation, weaving a heart-felt narrative that is as moving as it is revelatory. As the band has said about their creative process: ‘People inspire us, everyday people that make us feel like we are part of the gang. Connection is hugely important to us’. Little Miss America is raw yet expansive in its emotional intensity and an exhilarating example of finely-honed song writing, no doubt a taste of their forthcoming album. As the band has said about their creative process: ‘We take great care in the recording process to give our listeners the same joy we get from the making of the music, so the quality of our new album is simply fantastic’. And that pretty much sums up Josh Orange’s Little Miss America. From the impassioned performances to the evocative imagery of the lyric, to the sustained melodic power, Little Miss America is accessible and stylistically impressive, blending some of the traditional nuances of the indie folk-rock form with the band’s unique characteristics and idiosyncrasies creating a sure fire mix.
