Interview with Tramone Miles, Owner of The Miles Group Portfolio Inc.

Hello! How are you?

I am well. Thank you. Weathering the world amid the pandemic, but still somehow finding inspiration and the energy to move forward and create. I have made great progress in the last year and am excited about the future.

What is your occupation?

I am the Founder of The Miles Group Portfolio Inc. We are a corporate and business development firm in the finance sector. In a nutshell, we create, develop, and manage startups from various industries. I currently have a few LLC’s underneath my corporation. They include Fish Tanks Apparel, T.R. Miles Coaching Solutions Inc., and The Red Agent C, a Luxury Real Estate & Lifestyle Concierge Firm. I recently also added on a music company, Monday Milez Entertainment, bringing me back to my first love, singing. Before I studied Finance, I studied music, singing in church as a young adult, and attending various universities for vocal performance and music business. As a classically trained tenor and gospel singer, I found myself in NYC ending my internship with singing and starting over, this time, transitioning into Real Estate & Finance. However, I never gave up on my music. I re-envisioned how and who I could become in my music career post opera and gospel. I am focused now on R&B, Soul & Hip Hop and when I am on stage, I go by the stage name Monday Milez. I am excited to work on my music company, Monday Milez Entertainment, a music publishing & production company based out of New York City, and equally excited to be getting back into the music industry.

Who was one person that helped you to get to where you are today?

I have so many influential people in my life. They have all contributed to my life in such impactful ways. One of the many that stand out who helped reshape my future in finance was my mentor, a hedge fund owner, that changed my life. I met him years ago when I was a real estate salesperson. We ended up doing business together and he also took me under his wings to learn and understand personal finance. The greatest lesson he taught me was to go out and make my vision happen. He said that my hustle reminds him of when he was in Finance school and that I had what it takes to be successful. At that time, I was studying Real Estate Finance and Development at NYU and that was a great motivator for me. It was there that I decided to take a page from his book and own multiple companies as his hedge fund did. While in school I founded The Miles Group Portfolio Inc., my corporate and business development firm. A year later, we developed Fish Tanks Apparel with my friend and NYU classmate, and we are excited to launch in the Spring of 2021.

What is your next big move?

I am currently in the process of launching a Business Blog, The Miles Minutes – a Blog by T.R. Miles. It is my chance to show the world who I am and to also display my companies and the projects we are working on. It will feature podcasts, interviews, life and business motivation, startup updates, social media engagement, and more. I am also looking to complete my Life & Business Coaching Certification with the Coach Training Alliance this fall. I know my professional experience coupled with my coaching education will allow me to serve my clients with excellence and I look forward to working with other firms in building their business and operations plans and strategies.

How do you build your client’s trust?

I build my client’s trust by just being honest and giving my all when conducting a business transaction. With me, you get what you get. I have tattoos, piercings, and I love fashion. I love being myself with my clients and I have a great sense of humor. A few smiles and laughs along with professionalism go a long way.

What separates you from other competitors?

I think that the fact that I am an African American millennial in the finance space already sets me apart from competitors as there are not many of us in this industry. Also, I have a more laid-back company culture. I love fashion and style and although I love a good three-piece suit, I also love street style. I feel that the finance space is a bit rigid and needs more young creatives that still love finance, but also culture. I am daring to be different and step out of the box in my finance company.

What is one milestone you want to hit before you retire?

Wow, this is a loaded question, but in my heart of hearts, I would want to have established my name as a pillar in the earth, ensuring that my legacy lives on through and with credible leadership and even some of my family.I am all about generational wealth and I want to change some of the narratives in my family, establishing my companies and passing them down. I would also like to be able to say I completed my entire portfolio of startups. We have so many companies ahead, ranging from music publishing & production, film & media, app development, sustainable construction, art & gallery management, cannabis, digital publishing, and more. Our industries keep us on our feet, and we are always learning and perfecting our businesses and operations. Lastly, I am a lover of education and I still have goals of obtaining my MBA and eventually my Ph.D. in Finance. I see myself teaching and giving back to the next generation and to be honest, I am a real nerd. I love grading papers and developing minds. We have a few companies in the education sector so being able to release those to the marketplace as Dr. T.R. Miles would be amazing and I think it has a nice ring to it. To be able to do this and have a hit record or two as Monday Milez, now that would be the icing on the cake!
