Since the launch of World of Warcraft Classic, there has been an influx of players, both new to the game and old veterans. Because of this, the current version of World of Warcraft suffered as player interest dwindled. While the game isn’t as popular as it once was, you can’t deny how large the World of Warcraft community is. Millions of players from around the world participate in raids, WoW Classic gold, and clock in hours just to get the WoW Classic items that they need to progress even further. Just to remind you, what we refer to as World of Warcraft Classic are the new servers that Blizzard launched in August 2019. Meanwhile, the Retail or Vanilla version refers to the original game that was released in 2004 and continues to get improvements alongside graphical improvements to this day.
So, what exactly is the perfect World of Warcraft game to play? Does the Retail version remain king? Or does the Classic WoW have enough edge to unseat the king and claim its throne? We’ll be talking about some of the key differences between these two versions and, hopefully, you’ll be able to find out the answer for yourself.
To kick things off, let’s compare the difficulty level of these games side by side. In the Retail version of World of Warcraft, all of the creatures are the same level as you are. As a result, they have far fewer hitpoints. Fewer hitpoints means an easier time to kill enemies. Why, in some cases, you can slice them as easily as using a hot knife through warm butter. With a flat difficulty curve, this means that you can level up faster than in WoW Classic. In the realm of WoW Classic, however, these things are just not possible. The difficulty in Classic is a far cry compared to the current World of Warcraft that we know. It’s much easier to kill enemies, it takes time to level up, and making long treks from one area to another is something that you have to get used to. WoW Classic also has fewer quests, but that doesn’t mean they can easily be accomplished. Groups are the way to go if you want to get a lot of WoW Classic gold quickly. In Retail, it’s fine if you just solo everything since enemies are a breeze to slay. All in all, WoW Classic is a game that provides a challenge yet can be quite monotonous while in WoW Vanilla/Retail you’ll have the time to focus on other things since killing monsters is absurdly easy.
Nothing says old school like having to take 15 minutes or so just to get to another area. That’s what World of Warcraft Classic is. Imagine if you have to head to another continent; now that would take hours! But in Retail, you can just simply warp into a town and boom—you’re where you need to be! Love it or hate it, Classic WoW has absolutely no respect for your time at all. If you want to get something done, you have to pour in the required hours to do so. On the other hand, WoW Vanilla is more accommodating of the free time that you do have. Only have an hour or two to play the game? You can use that time to complete quests, run a dungeon or two, and further improve your character within that span of time! The sky’s the limit with what you can do within that time limit in the Retail version.
If you’re the type of person that loves challenges and has a lot of time in their hands to farm WoW Classic gold and get the WoW Classic items that you want, then we wholeheartedly recommend playing World of Warcraft Classic. However, if you prefer a relaxing and easygoing game to play without having to fret too much about your character, then the Vanilla/Retail version of World of Warcraft is the perfect game for you. Both versions offer different experiences despite being the same game. But at its core, World of Warcraft is one of the best MMORPGs that you can get into right now.
