Acclaimed Canadian auteur Sean Nicholas Savage has revealed a video for his single “Mysteries,” taken from his just-released new album Life Is Crazy (Arbutus). The clip premiered via The Fader and he told them “This is a live performance with effects, with Marcin Masecki from the record on piano and shot by Noah Triple,” says Savage. “It‘s a song about things or people with whom as much as you try to become, or to consume the closer you get, the more pronounced is the unknown which drives our dreaming in the first place.” Calling the video “a perfectly theatrical black-and-white clip that, were it mounted onstage, could probably get Savage the T in his EGOT,” The Fader note “The madcap Canadian balladeer brings Broadway home… ‘Mysteries’ (is) a tortured, epic highlight of the album’s back half which sees Savage…singing about the ineffability of human connection.”

Life is Crazy, a bold and attuned record, genuflects towards the storied history of the good old-fashioned Broadway musical. American Songwriter noted “Sean Nicholas Savage masters his wwn renaissance on Life is Crazy.” Conceived in his transition to theatre, it marks the dawn of a new era for SNS, and a long-awaiting return to the full-length LP format. It marks Savage’s follow up to his revered master-cassette trilogy – Magnificent Fist (2016), Yummycoma (2017), and Screamo (2018).
Lyrically, Savage grapples with his signature themes of perception, identity, and the unknown, among others. While still abstract, the metaphors and subject matter are effortless and more inviting than ever before. New to Life Is Crazy is a narrative tone removed from time.
