Hi Hellove, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey VENTS! What’s up? I’ve been great! We finally released our debut track and the feedback has been so good. After so much preparation I’m so excited and energised to work on new music.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Lie”?

Yeah, “Lie” was one of our first tracks we wrote for Hellove. When writing the instrumental, it was definitely an awakening of some sort. It’s awesome that Trove gave the already uplifting instrumental a unique feeling, explaining how difficult it is to end a relationship and move on, while still thinking the best is yet to come. Our songwriter Claus has always said that a good song has that “magic sauce” where you don’t know if the song is happy or not. I’d say “Lie” has a similar feeling to it.

Did any event, in particular, inspire you to write this song?

The summer was just around the corner and we were just starting to get positive signs from the universe for our artist project. For me the instrumental definitely captures what I’m feeling at the moment.

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

Glad you asked! We filmed a lyric video that expands the emotion of the track. It’s going to be out Wednesday, 21st of October.

How was the recording and writing process?

We sent some instrumentals to Trove and of course “Lie” was the best match to compliment his vocal abilities. During the pandemic, flying is not really an option so he just recorded the vocals by himself. I remember he sent back the first draft for the verse and chorus – I loved it and listened to it on repeat!

What was it like to work with Trove and how did that relationship develop?

It was awesome! I actually listened to him some time ago already. My favourite song from him is “Lights”. When we were searching for new collaborators, I thought what the heck, let’s give reaching out to him a shot and hope for the best. Fortunately, he was up for it!

How much did he get to influence the song?

A lot, he wrote the lyrics, melody and recorded the vocals.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than working on your own?

Everything I do lately is a collaboration. I always write together with my songwriters, for example. For me that’s the most exciting part in making music. When we create together we always end up somewhere completely new. It’s just so inspiring!

What role does Estonia play in your music?

It’s my home. When I was playing here locally in a metal band many years ago, I found the awesome songwriters I work with and it’s been great to see us grow as musicians. I also participated in the Estonian Eurovision Song contest, which was a sea of emotions. Performing music on live TV is an experience of its own. Also I met my manager back in the first grade, haha!

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

We’re just in the process of making final touches on the next track. It’s going to hit the feels like crazy! It was also one of the first songs written for Hellove. You’ll definitely hear the cinematic influence there that I try to infuse in my music.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

We’re aiming for late November. Fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly.

What else is happening next in Hellove’s world?

Right now we’re sitting on so many written instrumentals and are actively searching for vocalists who have a similar vision to us to collaborate with (so if you feel you might be it, hit us up!). As for 2021 –  we have a lot of house and funky/disco tracks that we’re really excited to release. Can’t wait!
