INTERVIEW: Hollis Jordan

How would you classify your music?

The music that I create is centered around the vocals, but sometimes it’s all about the beat. It’s like a combination of R&B, hop-hop and gospel. Kind of reminiscent of artist like Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson and J Moss.

Who are some of your top 5 musical influences?

Whitney Houston, Beyonce’, Micheal Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson.

What do you want fans to take from your music?

When my fan listen to my music I want them to know that I care about great vocals and real R&B music.

How’s the music scene in your locale?

Detroit has a rich musical heritage starting with the Motown era and Aretha Franklin to Eminem and Big Sean.  Now I’m here to take it to the next level.

What is the best concert you have been to? What do you like most about playing live?

The best concert that I’ve been to is Big Sean.  What I like most about playing live is the energy I get from the crowd.

Is there a song on your latest CD release here that stands out as your personal favorite, and why?  “RUNAWAY” is the standout song because it’s the first song that I wrote and was really satisfied with.  “RUNAWAY” is also the first song that I controlled the entire project from writing to producing as well as producing the concept video, the whole thing.

How have you evolved as an artist over the last year?

The biggest evolution as an artist has been putting together a great team, with great people to help support my vision. It’s been awesome.

If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, have a drink with any band or artist (dead or alive) who would it be?

Michael Jackson.

What’s next for you?

You can expect more music and more videos.  And starting it out will be a brand new live performance video of my single “RUNAWAY”.  I am truly excited about the future.
