Ranking Every Episode Of Season 9 Of ‘The Simpsons’

On the one hand, it’s hard not to feel the dip from ranking every episode of season eight of The Simpsons to season nine of The Simpsons. Oh, it’s still excellent television, but I know we are no longer building toward the peak of the show, and of television history. I know that by season 10 there are episodes I don’t even like all that much that will be showing up. I know soon bad episodes are going to pop up, the first in the history of The Simpsons. On the other hand, there are still so many excellent episodes of TV in the ninth season, so I still was excited to rank the season. Time to get to it! Let’s enjoy the glory days of The Simpsons while we still can!

25. “Natural Born Kissers”

24. “Treehouse of Horror VIII”

23. “All Singing, All Dancing”

22. “Bart Star”

21. “The Principal and the Pauper”

20. “Das Bus”

19. “Girly Edition”

18. “King of the Hill”

17. “Lost Our Lisa”

16. “The Two Mrs. Nahasapeemapetilons”

15. “Miracle on Evergreen Terrace”

14. “Bart Carny”

13. “The Last Temptation of Krust”

12. “This Little Wiggy”

11. “Lisa the Skeptic”

10. “Lisa the Simpson”

9. “Dumbbell Indemnity”

8. “The Joy of Sect”

7. “Simpson Tide”

6. “Lisa’s Sax”

5. “Trash of the Titans”

4. “The Trouble with Trillions”

3. “Realty Bites”

2. “The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson”

1. “The Cartridge Family”

Yeah this season was definitely a different ranking experience. In recent seasons I would be thinking to myself, “Oh man, there are so many great episodes! This is hard.” This time, it was more like “Yeah, that’s a good episode. That’s a good episode. I guess this good episode is slightly better than that good episode.” Also, I would dare say that “Natural Born Kissers” is merely a pretty good episode. It’s also the season finale, meaning it portends what was to come. That being said, the top three episodes here I do consider Simpsons classics, so it’s not like this was a middling season of TV. It’s really good. It’s just the start of the down slope on the Simpsons quality roller coaster.
