INTERVIEW: Boom Bap Hip Hop Artist Prema777

Hi Prema, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been blessed and using the quarantine to rebalance and start new projects.  I also took the time to start a new business venture called imunaTea, a fresh juice delivery service in my local area. Needless to say, fortunately I’m busy and work has been flowing.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Workin’”?

Workin is my recent single off Take Flight (due to drop early 2021).  It’s a collab joint ft Nitty Scott with an empowering message to keep pushing and believing in your goals.  I wanted to showcase different sounds on the album and for this it was tribal drums and patterns.  It was a perfect curve to add to the project and once I layed down the hook, I decided to reach out to Nitty and see if she was down to add her lyrical spin on it and it unfolded from there.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

“Workin” was inspired by the journey of Take Flight. finding each sound, beat and concept to narrate the stories that unfolded.  I’ve always been a believer in earning mine and working for it.  I believe you can tell a lot about a person by their work ethic and that’s something I take pride in.

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

I may have a little something up my sleeve for a visual to roll out.  You’ll have to stay tuned to see but I can definitely promise imma bout to set it off for 2021.

The single comes off your new album Take Flight – what’s the story behind the title?

Take Flight is an embodiment of classic flavor with a melodic & playful twist.  It’s my test of my songwriting capability and taking a risk to explore my range.  I created Take Flight with the intention of going places without expectation or knowing the destination.

How was the recording and writing process?

The recording process brought me to new levels. I learned a lot about building & unfolding layers within both the music and myself.  Lil nuances like adding and taking away can change the whole tone.  It definitely sharpened my songwriting and overall skill set.

You brought some special guests to the table – did you handpick them or how did they come on board?

Most of the team on board through Take Flight are part of the Intellectual Entertainment Family or I’ve been building with for a while.  Whether the connect was an inspired energy or created on spot, everything happened organically.

What did they bring to the table?

Everyone who participated in Take Flight has a broad range of talent. They brought an ability to play differently with the sound, but most importantly they brought joy to the creating process.  I am blessed to create with people I love and am inspired by.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than working your own?

Collaborating is always gonna  have a twist because it’s an exchange of energy.  I vibe off the relationship created.  It could go either way pending on the work put in, but if it’s all me or a collab I’m coming on 110.  At the end of the day, it’s still my name and stamp on whatever I do.

What role does Staten Island play in your music?

Staten Island is the center of my creative tribe.  I moved many times growing up and each time has had an impact on my music and art, but Staten always gave me the space to breathe and focus more.  It’s where I built up my music muscle.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

I find Inspiration through everything in life, but for my songs and lyrics, it will always will be a path of getting to know my higher self.  Writing and art is therapy and by creating we get to unlock ourselves and set our ideas and different versions of ourselves free.

What else is happening next in Prema777’s world?

New in Prema world is a recent collab dropped with iNTeLL ft. Chey and myself called “Only Fans” (available on all streaming platforms).  If you haven’t heard it, get on it because it’s the wave.

I’ll also be dropping Take Flight in early 2021 and in between now and Dec. stay tuned for surprises and visuals by following my IG Prema777.

Otherwise it’s a Pre-momma world because iNTeLL and I are blessed to announce our baby girl is due next week.  Lots of love and light will be in our realm but the work will keep flowing and I’m sure it’ll pour over into more interesting creative eruptions for 2021.
