Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Just out here living the good life!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Walk With You”?

Well let’s go for a walk and we’ll tell you!

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Oh yeah I remember it as clear as day. It was right after Thanksgiving and Jake, the third member of Autograf, called me to say he just had a mental breakdown and had to quit music. It was so surreal. I was like ok, well is this the end of Autograf? Not really knowing how to deal with it, I just locked myself in the studio the whole winter and started working on this song and others. Ironically, it was the first song we started working on for the album but it was the last one that we actually finally finished.

The single comes off your new album The Ace of You – what’s the story behind the title?

Life is a deck of cards. And although you can’t choose the hand you’re dealt, anything is still possible depending on how you play that hand. So this album tells our story of loss, heartbreak, triumph and everything in between. It’s a common experience in everyone’s life. So this album not only tells our story, but it tells your story. And how you interpret and experience the music will tell your life story. And we only have one life to live so you might as well make that story beautiful. The Ace card represents this. We want everyone to live the best life they can. This is The Ace of You.

How was the recording and writing process?

Well “Walk With You” took the longest to finish, maybe a year and a half with over a hundred different versions. Luckily most the other songs on the album didn’t take this long haha.

How would you say the long stint between your inception into the scene and this album help to come up with arguably some of your best work?

Well I’m not sure it necessarily helped. A lot of touring artists struggle to make music when being on the road all the time, and I guess we were no different. So when we weren’t sure if we were going to continue on with Autograf, I guess that was an opportunity to slow down, stop everything we were doing, stop touring and actually focus on working on music. There’s always a positive to come out of every seemingly negative situation!

Why taking so long on releasing this material?

Hopefully it won’t take us 5 years to make another album haha.

How would you say this encompass a new beginning for you guys?

Every moment is a new beginning.

Was it easy to take on this new direction?

The direction took us rather than us taking it based on what was going on in our life with loss of love, family, bandmate, etc.

What aspect of the band’s personal journey did you get to explore on this record?

It was fun making some club records.

Where else did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

You life experiences give you tons of inspiration.

What else is happening next in Autograf’s world?

Working on our next album!
