This year’s season of the Indian Premier League is different than any other season it had since its inaugural one–and it is for a lot of reasons. For one, this is the first season that was held in the middle of a worldwide pandemic. Second, all games were scheduled to be held overseas in the United Arab Emirates, removing all homecourt advantage for all teams and placing them all in neutral, if not unfamiliar, grounds. Third, matches are done behind closed doors, with players only being kept company by canned fan cheers and canned claps.
Although you can only watch IPL matches online or through partner streaming services, it doesn’t mean that you have to be outside the loop of what is the latest in the matches for this season. So, who is winning, so far? Which team is looking at a better chance for the finals? Will the Mumbai Indians stay strong for another championship? Would their rivals, the Chennai Super Kings, beat them to the championship this time? Or rather, would someone else bat through the two formidable teams and claim victory for their own? Get to know the latest so far of the IPL 2020 season.
Most of the pressure is now on the MI, with them being the defending champion from the last season. Surprisingly, they started the season poorly compared to how the CSK did so far. However, being the powerhouse that they are, they are sure to deliver an exciting race to the championship this season.
Chennai Super Kings
Among all other teams who are not looking like their best this season, the CSK seemed to have their best foot forward right off the bat. Although the MI has a better record against them head-to-head, they kicked off this season on a better standing than them. However, how long they can keep it that easy is still yet to be seen.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Aside from the top two contending teams, the RCBs are also considered by a lot of people to be a force to watch out for. With a very unpredictable roster and gameplay, the MI and CSK should keep close to watch of them–they might snatch the championship anytime if they are not careful enough.
The clear underdog of the tournament, the Royals have had a lot of marginal wins so far–and if they are aiming to be at least at the top four, they are going to need more than that to bat their way to it.
Kolkata Knight Riders
The KKR has a pretty interesting roster, with each player being notable on in their aspect of expertise. What would this mix of expertise bring to the team? With more match son the way, all they need to do is utilize all the cards they have on the deck at the right time.
Kings XI Punjab
Still, on the struggling side, it appears that this team is still on a hard search for “T20 luck.” Although the team is not short of individual talent fort its roster, what it seems to lack is a good and harmonious amalgamation of those skills that would be the perfect recipe for a victory. Disappointingly, it has never been good enough–maybe until now, hopefully.
The Sunrisers started poorly this season with two losses right off the bat. However, they managed to regain footing and now have won two matches in a row. Right now, the challenge for them is to keep up the momentum and not lose focus, lest they risk going on a losing streak and falling out early for any chance at the championship.
