SINGLE REVIEW: Dream by CIRCUSDUST

Enigmatic Australian music artist Altiyan Childs has emerged from his prominent career history, collaborating with two fellow high-calibre musicians Mars Marcos on drums and Dave Beaton on bass to form Circusdust, a powerfully engaging new musical force in Australian music. Merging all the finesse of superb musicianship with emotionally charged melodic sensibilities the band’s new single Dream epitomises the essence of compelling indie rock, utilising Altiyan’s undeniable vocal prowess to convey a song about the tenacity of the human spirit, with a lyric that blends vivid imagery with an unapologetic resolve. The new track follows the band’s last single Irregular and comes in the wake of several months of touring. In this era of the pandemic, Circusdust’s Dream becomes a shimmering reflection of determination and resilience with one of the key lines of the song—‘Don’t let forever pass you by’—a pertinent reminder of what we must hold fast to in the face of extraordinary circumstances. As Altiyan has said of the new track: ‘Dream was written in the midst of musical aspirations as the front-man and founder of my band. It also speaks of/to anybody with a dream to achieve some earthly/spiritual mission that would give their soul rest. Its central message is two-fold: 1. Almost anything is possible while there is still air in your lungs. 2. Success can be alternatively defined as simply making an attempt in the first place’.

And what an extraordinary attempt it is. Altiyan’s high-flying vocal taking charge, utilising mesmerising melodic punch throughout, and all harnessed to create a sustained feeling of rousing joy and doing what all good records should do: move you. This is a love song to freedom, an exhilarating musical ride that will leave you breathless; replete with galvanising electricity, soaring hooks and raw energy, Dream is the inspirational rock song you’ve been waiting for.
