Ranking Every Episode Of Season Seven Of ‘The Simpsons’

When I sat down to write today, the very first thing I wanted to do was write this list. That’s how much I enjoy doing these rankings of Simpsons episodes. Today, it’s time for season seven. I don’t need to tell you I think this is a great season of television. It’s maybe a step down from season six, but only just. That would still make it, at worst, the third-best season of the greatest show of all time. There were 25 episodes in the seventh season, four of which were holdovers from David Mirkin’s time running the show. The rest were produced by the dynamic duo of Bill Oakley and Josh Weinstein. It’s time to get to ranking!

25. “22 Short Films About Springfield”

24. “Treehouse of Horror VI”

23. “Raging Abe Simpson and His Grumbling Grandson in ‘The Curse of the Flying Hellfish’”

22. “Bart on the Road”

21. “Marge Be Not Proud”

20. “The Simpsons’ 138th Episode Spectacular”

19. “Scenes from the Class Struggle in Springfield”

18. “Summer of 4 Ft. 2”

17. “Who Shot Mr. Burns? (Part Two)”

16. “Home Sweet Homediddily-Dum-Doodily”

15. “Lisa the Iconoclast”

14. “Bart Sells His Soul”

13. “Lisa the Vegetarian”

12. “Homer the Smithers”

11. “A Fish Called Selma”

10.  “Two Bad Neighbors”

9. “Sideshow Bob’s Last Gleaming”

8. “Mother Simpson”

7. “The Day the Violence Died”

6. “Homerpalooza”

5. “Much Apu About Nothing”

4. “King-Size Homer”

3. “Bart the Fink”

2. “Team Homer”

1. “Radioactive Man”

I may get some stick for having “22 Short Films About Springfield” last. Now, I think it’s a good episode. I love “Steamed Hams” everybody. I just think the episode is hit and miss. Not all the stories are funny. “Steams Hams” is the clear standout, but the rest is mostly just fine. This was maybe the hardest season to rank so far. That’s because most of the episodes are jammed into a pack of really good, perhaps tipping over into great. The strength of season seven isn’t in its all-time great episodes. It’s in the fact there are like 20 A-/B+ episodes and it’s really hard to parse them. I do like this season’s “Treehouse of Horror” by the way. It includes the famed episode where Homer enters the third dimension. Mmm…erotic cakes. See you for season eight!
