Every now and then an exciting talent emerges, and singer-songwriter prstn. is definitely one that has already started to make waves. From his beginnings in Harrogate, his journey has been shaped by throwing caution to the wind and leading with a love of lyricism bleeding into a musical form resulting in penning singles for other artists including Youngr & Jack Wins and is highlighted in this release.
Having previously amassed over 30 million streams, & a gold selling track, prstn. unveils his melonic filled 2nd released ‘Absinthe’. Produced by Tylr Rydr (Ashnikko, Girli), the alt-pop-soul track continues to give an insight into what prstn. has been working on since moving to London in 2017.
The track of which follows ‘Homesick’ is debut offering, tells a story of a night out where self-destruction, inner terminal and a personal state of intoxication becomes personified and reflected in that evenings love interest.
Musically the song has 3 stages and unintentionally is somewhat a true representation of the night that inspired the song. Around 2:09 it flips into a Justin Timberlake-eqse outro, where the audio turns into 8-D. Something that left a long-standing impression when a Whatapp audio file went viral at the start of lockdown. It feels as if you’re submerged by something bigger than oneself.
With inspiration from the likes of The XX, Drake & The Weekend the song is a melting pot that will help define prstn. in his own light.
Speaking of the track prstn. explains; “The song was written on the back of rouge weekend of partying where I met a girl that was in state of intoxication and terminal. I just so happened to see her inner demons as mirror of myself. I was aware and wanted to avoid the madness but didn’t have the control to do so.”
