INTERVIEW: The Ugly Boys

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

We’ve been great! Busy though.

Can you talk to us more about your upcoming single Smoke and Sunshine?

We would love to. This is our favorite song we have released yet, it’s a really energetic track that was a lot of fun to make. We also felt like it kind of summed up the very weird feeling of our Summer 2020.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Yup. The title itself is a reference to the fires in California, as living in Santa Cruz we have been directly affected. The name “Smoke and Sunshine” refers to the crazy contrast of the weather as of late, with the sky being a gross brown one day, and a bright blue the next. These have been weird times to say the least.

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

There may be plans in the works, stay tuned.

How was the recording and writing process?

It was a lot smoother than the majority of our songs have been, as it felt like everything sort of just dropped into place. It was almost off putting how easy it was to make, which looking back was a really good sign.

After the great reception from your previous album – did you feel any pressure as you were putting this new material or rather the opposite?

If anything the success has sort of just motivated us to go even harder, and we feel like every song we put out is better than the last, so though the pressure has felt there we wouldn’t say it has negatively affected us in any way.

With a large audience on social networks like Tik Tok – do you take these platforms in

consideration when putting new material together?

Somewhat, but we make sure that the music comes first, and we never pander to

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes! We have a bunch of singles in the works that we’re super excited about.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Not yet, probably sometime in November though.

What else is happening next in The Ugly Boys’ world?

We got a whole lot of content coming, and we promise you’re gonna be hearing about us a lot more in the coming months.
