Hi Lucas & Steve, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
We’ve been great, thanks! Been working hard at the studio. Crazy times of course, but no lack of creativity an inspiration.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Another Life”?
We wrote another life in LA with Alida (& Teemu). The session was fire from the start. In an early stage it became clear that this song was going to have a special vibe around it. We went to the session thrilled because we knew Alida’s incredible voice. Very excited to work with her.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
We were at the beginning of the whole world getting infected with covid and everybody felt that the ability to travel was about to change drastically. Of course, the track is about an impossible love and although not on purpose, the situation might have had an influence.
Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?
YES! There will be a video and since we’re dropping the album in which we’re telling a story with each track, the video of another life will be linked to other video’s of tracks appearing on the album!
What was it like to work with Alida and how did that relationship develop?
Crazy working with her. Give her a mic and she’ll amaze you with out of the box, catchy melodies, and of course, her special and outstanding voice.
The single comes off your new album Letters To Remember – what’s the story behind the title?
We’re inspired from our world travels, an amalgamation of cultures and international rising talents. During writing camps in Los Angeles, London, Sweden and Amsterdam, ‘Letters To Remember’ took shape. While global tours across America, Asia and South America, translated into the creative sound produced in the studio in the Netherlands. Together with great artists and young musicians from different parts of the world, we wrote, produced and recorded all the songs are selves.
How much did she get to influence the song? How was the recording and writing process?
She got to influence the song a lot, we wrote it together so we were all part of the process.
Having recorded and produced on different parts of the world – how does meeting all these different cultures have influence on your sound?
Letters to remember… every track is a story that we wanna share…we wrote and recorded all tracks in different places around the world. The traveling for all these songs was so inspiring; different places just inspire in a different way.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
Inspiration for songs and lyrics: Sometimes people ask us if a song is autobiographical, but usually that’s not the case with us. It’s like writing a story, a book or a movie; fiction. Most of the times it is indeed intertwined with the way we think about stuff, life, relationships e.g. This can also be a situation in the past a desire. Usually melodies just come to us and we shape those to the lyrics, or exactly the other way around.
What else is happening next in Lucas & Steve’s world?
We’ve been so busy creating the album that we cannot wait for it to be released. It feels a little but like our child, since we’ve been working on it and perfecting it for months (maybe even years, since it’s the first album we’re dropping). We’re also working a lot of stuff for around the album, but Letters To Remember will definitely be the main thing for us for the upcoming period.
