The cast for the much-anticipated Don’t Worry, Darling is taking impressive shape with the addition of actor Harry Styles to the already star-studded cast. Styles is stepping into the role once tapped for Shia LaBeouf who bowed out at the last moment due to scheduling conflicts. The critically praised actor will be essaying the role of husband to actor Florence Pugh. Styles-one of the cooler named actors currently going strong- made a huge splash with his screen debut in Christopher Nolan’s 2017 historical war epic, Dunkirk. Since that time, the talented thespian has laid low, picking his next projects carefully. Don’t Worry Darling will mark his sophomore outing on the silver screen.
The movie, directed by Olivia Wilde (best known as an actor in such projects as Portlandia, Her and 2018’s Life Itself) for New Line has been described as a psychological thriller that focuses on a disgruntled 1950s housewife who discovers a frightening truth about her life while attempting to make a home for her and her family in a remote California community. This is to be a follow-up to Wilde’s critically acclaimed 2019 directed film Booksmart and the talented actor is stacking the deck with star power to spare in her new project: Joining Wilde (who will also act in the movie) and Styles for Don’t Worry, Darling are A-List stars Chris Pine (Wonder Woman 1984, Star Trek), the aforementioned Florence Pugh (Little Women, Midsommar) and Dakota Johnson (The Peanut Butter Falcon, Bad Times at the El Royale).
Don’t Worry, Darling inspired a Hollywood studio bidding war before New Line landed their bird and is written by Katie Silberman based off of a spec script by Shane and Carey Van Dyke. Silberman has recent history with Wilde, having worked with the director on her freshman film, Booksmart.
Roy Lee and Miri Yoon from Vertigo Entertainment (IT, The Departed) have joined the intriguing project as producers alongside Silberman and Wilde, while Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen, Lords of Dogtown) will join spec writers Shane and Carey Van Dyke as an executive produce on the film. Overseeing the whole shebang will be studio bigwigs Daria Cercek, Celia Khong and Richard Brenner.
Vents will keep tabs on the project and we find it notable that Don’t Worry, Darling hit the buzz circuit as early as 2019 (ah, the good old days) when it was named as part of the renowned screenwriting Blacklist, which is a veritable buffet that highlights new and mucho talked about unproduced screenplays making the rounds in Hollywood.
