Rick is a co-founder and senior publicist of MWPR (@mwprinc), a Los Angeles-based publicity firm that works with clients in the entertainment and lifestyle fields. Here are 20 party questions to help get to know him a little better.
Just last year you escorted clients down major red carpets like “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” (Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Quentin Tarantino), “John Wick 3” (Keanu Reeves), and “1917” (Benedict Cumberbatch). If you had to choose one of those guys to bring to Thanksgiving dinner, who would it be?
Maybe Cumberbatch, because he seems so unique as an individual.
All-time favorite movie?
Tough. It changes all the time. I tend to lean in the direction of epic dramas. A couple off the top of my head? “Heat” with Pacino and De Niro. “Dances with Wolves.” And, let’s say “Drive,” though that’s not epic, but still one of my favorites.
Best TV discovery of this year?
Currently watching “The West Wing,” believe it or not. I’d never seen it back in its 90s heyday, but I like Sorkin as a writer so I had to check it out.
I heard you’re a fan of “Hot Ones.” Would you be able to complete the challenge?
Hell yeah. I’ve actually gone through a couple of bottles of their #10 sauce.
Tacos. No question.
Your previous career was as a guitar player, recording an album with legendary producer Keith Olsen (Fleetwood Mac, Journey, Joe Walsh). What would your dream gig have been (who would you have dreamt of touring with)?
Back then? Let’s say Peter Gabriel. He sort of defies genre and knows how to put on an intimate yet really great live show.
If you could only listen to one song all day today, what would it be?
Impossible to answer. But my daughter would say “Perfect” by One Direction, which has been playing a lot in the background lately.
You were born and raised in Calgary. What’s the most Canadian thing about you?
Apologizing for nothing.
Favorite Canadian actor?
I’m gonna go old-school and say Donald Sutherland.
If you were snowed in, what beer would you be drinking?
I see you have a Harley. Sunday afternoon ride: beach or mountains?
Mountain canyons to the beach.
Where would your dream vacation be?
Vacation? What’s that?
What would you name your boat if you had one?
Probably whatever my wife told me to name it [laughs].
What’s your pet peeve?
What is your guilty pleasure?
What is your favorite word?
What’s your favorite board game?
I’ve been playing the digital version of Yatzy with my daughter lately. But I’d probably say Monopoly.
What inspires you creatively?
Creating, actually. I know, vicious circle—an enigma wrapped in a mystery.
What sound do you love?
Motorcycle. The right one at a nice, “loping” (uneven) idle.
What’s something about you that people wouldn’t know/guess?
I love huskies. And not just because it rhymes with my last name.
If you had to change your name, what would your new name be?
