5 Important Factors To Consider While Choosing Infrared Sauna

An infrared sauna will be able to help you relax and gain relief from your sore muscles. Not only will it help you feel well-rested, it also improves your health and general well-being. However, with so many options of similar-looking sauna it can be very difficult to choose an infrared sauna that provides you the benefits you are looking for.

Whether you are looking for a commercial or an in-house infrared sauna, there are a few things you need to look into, if you want to make sure you are choosing the best. Here are a few such factors you should be focusing on:

Quality and Quantity of Infrared Energy

Heaters that get really hot are not necessarily the best when it comes to infrared sauna. They should be able to control the surface temperature. In fact heaters with cooler surface area tend to produce more infrared energy. Also, they should be able to emit higher concentration of infrared waves for the infrared therapy to be effective and therapeutic. The heat should be distributed evenly.

Emissive Materials

One of the most common emissive materials used in infrared saunas is carbon. Ceramic heaters were used before carbon heaters were introduced. In fact some sauna manufacturers use them even now.

Infrared Waves

There are three types of infrared waves in an infrared spectrum – NIR (near), MIR (mid), and FIR (far). Each of these come with different frequency ranges and distinct characteristics. You need to look for a full spectrum sauna that can combine all three elements in one heater without emitting extreme heat or light that can harm your skin cells and tissues.

Distance to light source

The distance between you and the light source matters a lot when it comes to your body absorbing the infrared energy. The nearer you are to the light source the more will be the power density. Ideally you should be about 1.2 inches away from the light to achieve maximum physiological effects.

Safety Standards

Make sure the infrared sauna you are going for, is built using FDA-approved materials that can withstand high temperatures without releasing unhealthy gases. The materials used should be non-toxic and safe and the product should have gone through extensive third-party testing. Look for saunas made from cedar, eucalyptus, or hypoallergenic basswood that is sustainable and non-toxic. The manufacturing process should adhere to the general safety standards and the product has to come with a safety certification.

Your sauna sessions should give you maximum enjoyment. It should help make you relax and decompress from the world for a while. You shouldn’t be forced to endure it for as long as you are in there.

Hotter is not exactly better when it comes to saunas. In fact intense heat levels can be dangerous for your skin and body. Try out a sauna session to make sure you enjoy it without experiencing any overheating. Understand the kind of therapeutic benefits you can get from the infrared sauna and make sure it adds value to your life.
