Hi Håkan, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
I’ve been good!
We’ve had a lot to do the last month since we found out about Samsung. It all happened really fast and we only had a few days to plan for the release. We have basically been playing catch up for the last month or so. It’s mostly fun though, and really exciting!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Blow The Speakers Up”?
It’s a psychedelic, pop-infused whistle anthem. It’s our first single after a long hiatus, the first single on our own label “Indieshake” and the cherry on top… The soundtrack to Samsung Galaxy Note 20 worldwide.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
I tend to always write our happiest songs at my lowest. We had been having a rough time, my mom had just past away from cancer and we spent a lot of time hiding away in the studio.
Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?
Yes! We did actually release a fantastic lyric video made by the incredible talented Laura Matikainen, her style just worked with what we had in mind and she knocked it out of the park! But if you’re asking about a more “old school” video, then that might be something for a later date.
How was the recording and writing process?
It was just one of those songs that started one way and then kind of grew to an uncontrollable monster that just knew what it wanted. We are lucky enough to have our own studio where we record everything. Basically we just tried a whole bunch of stuff. Guitars pushed so hard that the walls where shaking, distorted palm muted upright pianos and fuzz driven analog synths to name a few.
What role does Sweden play in your music?
Sweden is an amazing country to live in, you have so much beautiful nature around you. Whenever I feel down or just can’t concentrate I take a walk in the woods.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
We have a lot of new material coming this year, we’ve been working in the studio for a long time so it’s nice to finally let people hear the songs.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Our next single “Madgical” is dropping September 25th. Then hopefully a few more before the end of the year.
What else is happening next in I Don’t Speak French’ world?
We started our own label “Indieshake”, it’s the home of I don’t speak french as well as Stranded Mermaid, Swedish Red Elephant and hopefully, who knows? A few more. We are also working on dates for a livestream for “Jam in the van”, and a brand new music video for a upcoming single.
