Pop artist Chioke Dmachi has all the angles covered as an entertainment artist, from being an actor to a singing/ songwriting recording artist. His TV and film credits include House MD, Crossing Over and… Chioke has been on soundtracks such as “Brothers in Arms” with his single “Alright” and has had songs featured on TV shows such as ABC’s Miss Guided. His 2011 debut single, “BoyZ Don’t Cry” was meant to increase awareness of the Bullycide epidemic plaguing the most vulnerable of the youth. In 2013 his single “Luv On U” video was nominated and won an EOTM award for best male video. In 2018 Chioke is Raining with a new sound RAIN. In 2019, Chioke won Ermantourage’s Diversity Music Contest.
Briefly describe who you are as a creative! What got you into pursuing a career in entertainment, and why your field specifically?
Hello I’m Chioke, Singing, writting and acting are my primary talents. My most recently released work is the very inspired “Heartless Reign” EP produced by Sam Smyers. The first single “RAIN “was playlisted by Barcadi and Major Lazer on Soundcloud and also is the winner of the ERMANTOURAGE first Diversity Music Contest for LGBTQ.
As creative I learned to value my own experiences and perspectives of life by allowing myself to create from them and share them. I began my career in entertainment at seventeen acting in commercials, films and Tv shows. I fell in love with acting, singing and performance which revealed to me the intrensic value of expression. How the power of my personal joy and pain can be channeled into art to Inspire others to wear their crown and shine their light. That’s how the entertainment industry and artist have always inspired me.
Can you think back to your first piece of work and what you learned most from it? How much of your voice has changed since you began?
The first single I released “Alright” on the “brother in arms” sound track, my voice in that song was one of encouragement and eternal optimism whilst acknowledging challenges. It’s a reminder to me till this day to “just Believe” In many ways my voice has grown stronger and I’ve learn to trust it and respect it.
Do you feel you are still finding your voice? What can you say your voice is right now?
I am always discovering something new within this life experience to be vocal and passionate about. Each new something seemingly carves new dynamics into my voice. I am always channeling that into my Music. The Heartless-Reign EP itself is a 4 track journey from self-hatred to self-love. The song “Heartless” was inspired by the destructive results of conditional love. “Right Now”, sings of the power of magic and possibilities in this moment. Crown “ This world is mine I belong here” is an expression and affirmation of loving oneself unconditionally and loving others the same. And rounding out the EP is Reign, which is about Love unconditionally overflowing.
The whole EP is an honest cathartic expression and journey of Heartbreak, love and redemption.
What do you hope to be known for during your career?
It’s my greatest desire to always be an example of believing in myself, loving my truth and never giving up. Art is magic, so powerful and inspiring. When people listen to my music, I hope they can feel my joy, feel my pains, my desires and my love. I hope they are healed by my encouragement and stirred by my anger. I hope to be known for shining a light of possibility, of perseverance, empathy and strength.
In what ways do you plan on utilizing your platform to better the world?
Uplifting, supporting and encouraging all people in our world to live their best life.
I stand in support of Black Lives Matter, equality for LGBTQ people, women’s equality, suicide prevention, democracy, Animal Rights, Voting and so many more issues. There are so many injustices in society and whenever I have the opportunity to be a part of positive change I am. Sometimes that’s investing time to uplift and encourage an individual. Sometimes it’s writing a really honest song that makes someone feel. And sometimes it’s been taking action to donate, vote, Show up and or protest.
What do you have in the works at the moment?
Im working on a few things, new music which will be the follow up to the Heartless Reign EP. The HeartlessReign Visual -EP. I am also working on book of poetry. And there’s a few other things in the pipeline that I can’t wait to share.
