I’ll be honest. I’m kind of running out of TV shows to recommend for bingeing. I mean, there are a ton of shows out there I haven’t brought up yet, but by this point the ones I haven’t recommended are either ones I haven’t seen, like Killing Eve, or ones I don’t like, such as Mr. Robot. So here is my new plan: Movie recommendations. Ah, but not just at random. I am going to pair three movies per recommendation article around some theme. I will also try and keep them to the same streaming service. Three movies will knock out a Sunday for you. Today, my recommendations are all built around one actor: Bruce Willis.
There are three Bruce Willis movies on HBO Max I think you should watch. Start with Die Hard. Have you seen it before? Probably. Still, it’s an all-time great action movie. Willis is great. Alan Rickman is fantastic. It’s a gripping action film with great set pieces but it can be funny and clever at the same time. William Atherton is in it! You can start this movie in the afternoon and have it take you into the early evening. It’s never a bad time to watch Die Hard.

Then, you move on to 12 Monkeys. Now, fair warning for this time of life: The movie involves a global pandemic. However, it also involves a lot of time travel. I don’t love Terry Gilliam as a filmmaker, but this movie is interesting, even if it is based on a Chris Marker short film I had seen before so I knew the twist. Oh, there’s a twist. Brad Pitt got an Oscar nomination for this film, mostly for twitching and acting unhinged. It’s not as good as Die Hard, but it’s worth seeing.
By this point, I am imaging it is evening and you’re winding down. Maybe you want to have a drink or two. Watch Armageddon. It’s not a good movie, but it is a ridiculous movie. It’s about oil drillers who are sent into space to drill into a meteor heading toward Earth. Michael Bay directed it. Armageddon is so dumb, but it’s fun. It’s a fine late-night movie to laugh at and not pay full attention to. If you fall asleep, it doesn’t matter.
With these three Bruce Willis movies, you can get yourself through a weekend day with some thrills, mindbenders, and laughs.
