Today, Nate Valdez, a self-taught songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, has launched a new project under the name VALDEZ with the first single, “Saint Munchausen.” CLICK HERE to watch the captivating visual (created by Nate himself) and HERE to listen on Spotify. The song is a frantic, clattering, first-person, horn-punctuated rant of a victim of the disease in which it appears those trying to help are actually hurting you, which Nate uses as a metaphor for the music business.
“It’s where the person who claims to have your best intentions is actually trying to hold you back,” Nate says.

Influenced by artists like Neutral Milk Hotel and Bright Eyes, Nate has created a signature minimalist-but-not-quite Lo-Fi sound that’s all his own. “Saint Munchausen” is the first taste of a lot more music coming soon from this unique artistwho spent his teenage years working in his grandfather’s mortuary in the rural Colorado town of Las Animas, Spanish for “the souls,” an apt name for his set of forthcoming songs which are filled with intimations of mortality, fading memories, regrets and even the presence of otherworldly spirits.
