Congratulations on your latest release “NYKO, NYKO”. Tell us about the song, the production, the recording process.
Thank you. I am really excited about the release of this song, as well as the new album to follow. The upcoming album’s songs are from a variety of places. These songs in-fact have been marinating for a few years. However, the idea for “NYKO, NYKO” came about in 2019, it’s telling of an east coast meets west coast gal, who loves to travel to see concerts or for the enjoyment & spontaneity. I was in-fact returning from NYC to California, when the idea of the hook of the song was discovered. It stands for “New York Knockout”. The overall full album happens to relate so much to a lot of relevant current events happening in 2020. I almost find it eerie that these songs are kinda about feeling boxed in by society, and here we are — inside. I recorded the album at home. It has a lot of feeling in it — because of the experience of living into the feeling of the album while recording it.
How did you know this was your next single – why this one?
I have been recording, mixing, listening, and re-listening to the songs from the upcoming album since mid-May. There were a few songs that stood out as potential singles, but this track just has good vibes. It radiates as a feel-good song. Lots of people say they like it. I like that people like it. Ha! Also, I am so glad to feature a couple artists on it too. I really enjoy collaborating.
Beyond this release, what else do you have planned for music lovers in 2020?
Lots of potential in songwriting. Lots of potential in rocking live-stream shows. The minute venues open up, I am there! I happen to have a lot of other material written too, so I will probably jump right into recording some of that. Follow up EPs are rad.
What would your advice be to someone wanting to pursue music?
Pursue it with all your heart. Learn instruments by writing songs — Read interesting books. Listen to audiobooks. You can write songs from any part of your experience. Just start and go. Be dedicated.
Tell us your goals/hopes/dreams/fears for your music?
I am really excited to see what tomorrow brings. I love to travel. I love rock ‘n roll music history. I would love to play in the same space as a lot of the greats. That would be most lovely. I also seek to be a good person with consistency. Someone my listeners, streamers, and bunnies can look up to.
