INTERVIEW: Teen Musician Andersen Hugh

Hi Andersen, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been absolutely amazing! I’ve been having the time of my life releasing new music

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “While We’re Young”?

“While We’re Young” is a song that describes youth culture today and is just an anthem of my generation. It’s just a fun song that I hope people can party and let go to. Everyone needs a song like “While We’re Young.”  A song and you can definitely feel the energy and party atmosphere when you listen to it.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

“While We’re Young” is the anthem and youth rebellion song of our generation. With all this negativity going on in the world we wanted to release a song where people can come together, show some love and have a good time. It pulls together youth culture where everyone can party and dance and just let go. I think everyone takes life too seriously so we should all live while we’re young. It wasn’t an event in particular but just my personality that inspired me to make this song.

The single comes off your new album Manifest – what’s the story behind the title?

I named it Manifest because I’m manifesting this life as an entertainer. I am beyond excited to share this project with everyone.  It’s a collection of fantastic songs based on my real life experiences that I cannot wait for everyone to hear. It’s definitely the piece of work I’m most proud of today.

How was the recording and writing process?

So my creative process is mostly with the prblm slvrs.  We’ll just hang out and talk about how I’m feeling, what I’ve been up to, etc. It’s different every time but a topic, feeling, or a random story will come up and well just go off of that and start creating.  There really is no method to the madness other than that.

What role does Houston play in your music?

Houston plays the biggest role and is almost everything in my music. It’s where I grew up and where I got connected in the industry. Houston will always be home to me and I will always appreciate the culture in Houston.

How does your background as an actor influence your work as a musician and the other way around?

Acting and singing are very connected in the way that when I’m in the studio each song I’m kind of playing a different character and I’m putting myself in a different mindset and there’s a certain vulnerability that you have to have to do both.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

The songs are based on my experiences and my feelings so that’s my inspiration. The music is as authentic as it gets, we found a way to take who I am and put it into music. I just want people to have as much fun with the songs as do I. I want to make people smile, maybe make them want to dance. I want them to be able to take a step back from reality and just have a good time and enjoy the music. I also want to be able for people to connect with my music. That’s also my inspiration.

What else is happening next in Andersen Hugh’s world?

I’m just working on getting better at my crafts, with acting and singing. I’m preparing to go study at New York film Academy to continue growing as an actor.  I’m constantly coming up with new ideas and creating new music to keep progressing as an artist.
