INTERVIEW: Wind Meets West

Welcome! We are so excited to chat with you. You have new music out – tell us all about it.

My latest song is “IF I GO”, a indie-pop track with alt-rock undertones. I wrote this song when trying to decide whether to stay in NYC to pursue a budding relationship or to move home to LA to be closer with my family. This song is an exploration of the question: who do I choose, my given family or my chosen family? The song captures that wistful feeling of playing back memories in your head while making decisions that could affect the rest of your life.

Who are some of your top 5 musical influences?

In no particular order: John Mayer, Robert Glasper, Sara Bareilles, the 1975, Lauv

What do you want fans to take from your music?

I write and listen to music to feel less alone in this world, to know that others are going through similar struggles that I’m going through. I want my music to feel like a warm hug that tells you everything is going to be okay

How’s the music scene in your locale?

New York City is great! It’s a place that outwardly seems very tough but inwardly is very community oriented. We’re all in this tough city together and I think that creates real friendship and loyalty, people do things for one another and try to help each other out as much as possible. If you’re a new artist, it’s one of the most challenging places to start but that’s what makes the artists here among the best of the best.

When did you know you were destined for music?

When I started writing songs in 7th grade on my cheap, red Yamaha Stratocaster and realized I could tell stories and make people feel emotions through music. The first song I ever wrote made my friend cry so that human connection, those kinds of reactions are what fuels my songwriting addiction.
