INTERVIEW: Tony Stampley

Hi Tony, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been doing good actually. Even better since putting out new music.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Colorblind”?

Colorblind is my new single.  Folks can hear it as well as purchase it on iTunes, and many other online platforms.  I think it is the perfect song for the times .

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

The events in Ferguson, MO, USA in 2014 inspired the song Colorblind.  The latest social injustices with Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery let us know it was time to put the song out.

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

We have plans to release a lyric video in the next week or two.

How was the recording and writing process?

The recording process was easy.  We recorded at Direct Image studios in Nashville, TN.  The place my friend, Kenny Royster, owns.  He is great. He recorded Luke Combs first recordings there. The writing process was easy too. My friend and co-writer Bonnie Swayze brought me the idea and we wrote it from the heart.  It didn’t take long at all.

Was this song always intended to be about the social climate today or it rather evolved into this?

It was written after the Ferguson protests and just fit the new protests and the social injustice climate we are now going through.  Just seemed like the perfect  time to put this song and message out.  We are all God’s children, Red, Yellow, Black, or White.

How did you go on balancing the dark aspect and themes that comes with the topic with the much uplifting message?

It was a God thing.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

I’ve got a new CD coming out soon.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Tentative release date is within the next 2 to 3 weeks. “Heal the World” is the name of the new CD

Any plans to hit the road?

For sure.  Had just done a couple of shows promoting my new material and then the pandemic closed down all the bars.

What else is happening next in Tony Stampley’s world?

Well, it’s my birthday today, August 20.  And we’re having hamburgers, hot dogs, crinkle cut fries and my favorite birthday cake from scratch — a Red Velvet cake.
