Lea Thomas Debuts New Single + Upcoming Performance

Hawaii-born, Brooklyn-based musician Lea Thomas releases a new self-produced single “Cry Baby” that blends folk finger-picking with waves of analog synthesizers — balancing intimate moments with expansive arrangements that honor the song’s notable emotional weight. “‘Cry Baby’ is an invitation to honor one’s grief,” shares Thomas. “I hope that this song will find its way to be of service however it may be needed now.”

Stream: “Cry Baby”

“When I was invited by {the social justice and ecology-oriented} Loam Magazine to be on the cover of this year’s spring print issue, I felt compelled to release a song that reflected the ethos of this inspiring publication. As the trials of the Covid-19 pandemic and reverberations of the Black Lives Matter movement brought up new and old sorrows for people around the world, my thoughts returned to the words of a song I had written the summer prior:

 Cry, baby, cry.
Cry because you love.
The song is still alive in your lungs.

Grieve, baby, grieve.
Grieve because you see.
Grieve because you feel what is real.
