INTERVIEW: Merōn

Hi Meron, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey! Thank you so much for having me! I’ve been good. Hope you’ve been well.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Thru The Phone”?

My boyfriend and I are in a long distance relationship, and I would always sing the hook of “Kiss Me Thru The Phone” by Soulja Boy. I just had an idea of putting my own spin on it… so I did!

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

My boyfriend came to visit me in LA (he lives 7 hours north) for a week. It was honestly one of the best weeks I had in a really long time so saying goodbye was really tough. Songwriting is my go to whenever I get emotional- which is a lot.

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

Probably not but I’m definitely going to have some music videos in the near future.

How was the recording and writing process?

I started writing it the last day my boyfriend was in LA and brought the idea to my friend, Justin Gammella. We finished writing it pretty quickly and I actually cut the vocals myself a month later. That was the first time I tired harmonies and vocal arrangement.

What role does Colorado play in your music?

I got introduced to songwriting in Colorado when I was in college. I took a songwriting class and became obsessed with writing songs. I also started collaborating with producers online and would write to beats. Looking back, it was kind of an introduction to a lot of writing methods and habits I use now and it was an introduction to the business side of the music industry.

As a songwriter for other big names – what have you learned from these experiences?

Trust the process. Some days I’ll write really good songs, other days I’m struggling to write a song… that’s just the process of songwriting!

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than working on your own?

If I write with an artist, I usually try to

How did your musical perspective as you move to LA?

I think being in LA has made me more focused as a songwriter. I am a product of my environment and having the opportunity to work with so many talented creatives is inspiring and has made me want to work that much harder at my craft.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yesssss! It’s already done.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

It’s called 21 Days. No set date yet but I can’t wait to put it out!

Any plans to hit the road?

Probably not due to covid

What else is happening next in Meron’s world?

I’m working on my EP. It’s going to be my first one and I’m so excited for it. I’ve never told a story with a collection of songs, and its been an amazing experience so far.
