INTERVIEW: Dani Taylor

Hi Dani, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi! I’ve been great. I’m currently on a road trip exploring the great American west before my single release of “Girl Most Likely”.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Girl Most Likely”?

Yes, my debut single is called “Girl Most Likely” and it is coming out on August 28th. I wrote the song earlier this year before lockdown. It’s an empowerment song for everyone who has felt misjudged by their peers. It’s based on my mentality in life, which took me a long time to learn. A lot of people will judge you without knowing you or the struggles you face and total strangers will say “you’re most likely to *insert negative comment here*” without ever having met you. Instead of feeling anger or sadness when you face adversity and everyone tells you you can’t do something, the girl most likely is the one to prove them wrong and succeed by staying positive. I am that girl, and most people I know are that girl and can relate to being the underdog.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I was bullied a lot in high school to the point that I promised myself I would prove my peers wrong. A classmate of mine once told my friend at another school that, “she’ll [me] never achieve anything in life.” It bothered me a lot when I was younger but since high school, I’ve realized that no matter what life throws at me or what people have to say about me, the only person whose opinion matters is mine. This song is a reminder to myself to be confident and positive even when life gives me the short end of the stick or people try to bring me down. And like I told someone once, it’s so important to take that fire within you, that fire that comes out when you’re angry at life or someone puts you down, take that fire and instead of burning bridges, burn brighter. The brighter you burn, the happier you’ll be and the more people will respect you.

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

Yes! I have a music video for “Girl Most Likely,” which was filmed by the Arizona film company “Wild Story Films.” The music video is releasing on the same day as the single on August 28th. It will premiere on cmt.com

How was the recording and writing process?

“Girl Most Likely” was probably the quickest song I’ve ever written with my favorite co-writers Will Rambeaux and Sherrie Austin. The lyrics flowed so easily and it was the melody that took some work because we really wanted to make it fresh and upbeat. Recording took quite a few months because of the pandemic. It had to be recorded over time to abide by the social distancing rules at the time. We were able to finish it in time for the release date which I am so grateful for. I am also extremely grateful to have had my song produced by Brad Hill and Dave Thompson. They really are such an amazing team and great people, too!

What role does Nashville play in your music?

I came to Nashville in 2018 and it has changed my entire perspective on not only my writing and sound but a change of heart as well for how I look at who I am as a person. I used to have this idea of being a “bad girl” like Miranda Lambert. But Nashville taught me to just be me. I’m not a bad girl at all, I am more quirky, positive and honest than anything. I decided to utilize who I was in the songs I wrote. Instead of pointing fingers or bringing down someone that broke my heart or hurt me, I decided to write about the situation in a fun positive way. I love nothing more than to always keep a positive mindset in life and writing.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes! I have another single coming out in October. A ballad called “Man of Few Words.” And a special little Christmas song releasing in November. My full EP is actually finished and I plan on releasing it in early 2021.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

I am not sure what to name my EP. I hope to have that figured out before 2021.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes! There are some plans in the making but everything is up in the air because of the pandemic. I would love to return to performing as soon as it is safe for myself, my bandmates, and the audience!

What else is happening next in Dani Taylor’s world?

I’m just working really hard towards getting these singles and my EP out there this year and next! I can’t wait for the world to hear them!
