INTERVIEW: Dead Romantic

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey!! It’s great to be here and thanks for having us. We’re doing really well thanks – our debut single All Talk is just about to be released, we’re filming the music video in a few days and we’re writing for our first EP coming next year 🙂

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “All Talk”?

All Talk is our first single as Dead Romantic, we’re really proud of this song – it’s big, energetic and catchy with some killer production from our very own Mike K. It was written with our good friend Steve Diamond, who’s a multi platinum songwriter based over in LA.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

It all came about pretty naturally. It’s a fun song, we’ve all been in that position – It’s about asking someone you like to basically give you a chance!

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

Yes! So, our single is released on Friday (August 14th) and alongside that there will be a lyric video & then the official music video is being filmed in a couple of days. The official video will come out around the 28th August.

How was the recording and writing process?

Mike has his own studio, set out in the wonderful picturesque landscape of Yorkshire. It’s a pretty place surrounded by nature and quite inspiring being around that scene when writing and recording. We managed to get All Talk together in just a few sessions, it’s all happened so fast.

As someone who has worked as a producer for multiple records – do you tend to take a different approach when collaborating with someone else rather than working on the material for this particular band?

Mike: I pretty much approach it the same way however, I think with Dead Romantic, we share the same vision for the band and when going into the writing process, it’s very much a collaborative effort. I like having the input from the guys. As far as the production I may tend to overthink sometimes because it’s our own. So, I may be slightly more critical of it. Doesn’t mean it’s better or worse, it’s just an unavoidable thing when you’re so close to it. Having the guys being a part of the collaborative process is what gives it the band sound which I’m loving :))

We love what we’re creating right now and we‘re passionate about getting the best out of ourselves when making this music. We really can’t wait for people to hear it!

What role does the UK play in your music?

Ben: I’ve lived in the UK my whole life, I love it here. It’s my home! Mike’s originally from Canada and lived in Los Angeles then Nashville for a good few years but has since moved to England, his family and mum are originally from Manchester and now he’s found his permanent home here. It’s always been his plan to be based in the UK.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

We’re working on releasing an EP next year and an album to follow. We have a couple more singles to follow All Talk, fairly soon! We’ve been writing a lot recently and there’s so much material in the works.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

We’re hoping for the EP to be released some time in 2021. No titles as of yet, maybe self titled? Who knows. But it’s certainly gonna rock hard and take you on a journey!

Any plans to hit the road in 2021?

Yes, once the world is in a safer place with COVID-19. It’s been a very challenging time for a lot of artists and bands but we’re hopeful for the future. We’re currently in a good position creatively and we will definitely be out playing shows when the time comes!

What else is happening next in Dead Romantic’ world?

So, All Talk has its first play on Kerrang! Radio the other night which was awesome. The single comes out August 14th alongside the lyric video with the official music video making its way onto YouTube 28th August. After that, full steam ahead for the next single and the EP!
