You know what show deserves more love? Futurama. I know it has fans and still airs in reruns, mostly on SyFy. However, in my mind it should be continued an all-time comedy show. Well, to me it is. It’s my second-favorite show ever, behind The Simpsons, also created by Matt Groening. To me, Futurama is the most-underrated show ever, and we need to talk about it more.
This crossed my mind last night as I flipped over to Futurama on SyFy. Right out of the gate after changing the channel I was hit with a great joke. The joke writing on Futurama is incredible. It’s such a funny show. Bender may be awful, but he’s also one of the best TV characters ever. There’s also the whole science fiction element to it, which frankly makes me wonder why more people don’t love Futurama. If you are a sci-fi fan, it has plenty for you. We’re talking robots, aliens, space travel, time travel, parallel universes, you name it. There are so many sci-fi fans out there that are just interesting in those kinds of topics, in a comedy or otherwise. If you love comedy, no show is funnier. Well, at least during its first run on FOX. To me, comedy fans AND sci-fi fans should be into Futurama, even if you only like one of those two things. If you like them both…well, you’ve seen Futurama, right? If not, I don’t know what you’re doing.
Yeah, maybe it’s weird to suddenly go on all in on talking about a show that hasn’t made new episodes in years and ended it’s great era over a decade ago. I don’t care. You can still watch it on TV. You can still buy it on DVD or Blu-ray. Futurama is an amazing show. We should be talking about it in the all-time pantheon more, at least for sitcoms and animated shows. I’m putting my money where my mouth is there, clearly. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have written this piece right here. In conclusion, Futurama rules and you should watch it.
