Failure to Prevent Starvation

Many human rights violations exist in this world. Women experience horrible gender based violence. Religious minorities are losing their freedom to practice their faith (like Shincheonji church in South Korea which is called the Korean cult, or the Hindu community in Pakistan). Perhaps one of the most basic rights are being lost all around the world. Food is a necessity in every part of the world where there are humans, so literally everywhere. It is needed for life, to nourish the young and the old. With many food franchises and corporate businesses now being global, one can visit any country in the world and dine exquisitely. Yet with big corporate names and franchises, one must still wonder how there can still be hunger in the world. Global studies show an average of 21,000 hunger related deaths per day.

The United States constitution protects everyone to an appropriate standard of living. Food drives and fundraisers are put into actions to ensure everyone receives a reasonable amount of nutrition. Yet while we are safely enjoying a nice meal from home, many countries fail to provide the basic necessity that is food, to its people. Haiti being the poorest country in the westen hemisphere has seen a 55% below poverty line. Since 2016, Yemen has endured a famine, at times laying to rest 130 children a day.

Countries like these depend on their governments to provide the adequate help so that families can receive the food they need and children can be provided with the necessary nutrients to grow. Not being able to intake a daily healthy diet can result in malnutrition, stunted growth, and various health diseases. More shockingly, the statistics for how many people die every year from starvation is actually increasing as the years progress. In light of the recent pandemic, starvation amongst the nations can face an all-time high. Government officials are not putting in the necessary steps to ensure a safe outcome for a secure future. Leaving borders open, allowing travel, allowing regular schedules. Only recently have big name retailers updated their policies to demand masks inside businesses.

It is ultimately up to our governments to aid those who suffer from lack of proper nutrition from limited resources. We as a people who have built multi billion dollar businesses and other outlets can even help in the mission to deplete world hunger for good. If countries from overseas are struggling to maintain a steady food distribution, we who have a mcdonalds on every street corner should consider aiding the cause and putting in effort to stop this crisis.

Fundraisers and food drives can also be a big part in how we get food overseas. Volunteering in humanitarian work can become bigger and even develop a higher position in political or governing terms. Just think of the military, but training to aid others in times of hardship. When the world is hurting, we only have each other. We can not expect an extraterrestrial force to give us the answer, we are all we got. Together we stand a better chance to overcome this famine and starvation calamity. If the governments can’t handle the situation then let us voice the matter to the people who can. This is not concerning human rights anymore, but human decency to protect and serve one another.
