Hi Ryan, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
I’ve been great. Just released my debut album, and super happy to let the world hear it.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “My Side”?
Yea, My Side essentially is about loving who you love without any worry or concern of what any outsiders think. As well as letting that person know you’re not scared of needing them by your side regardless off how it makes you look. Owning up to your own feelings and being true to yourself.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
In a way I can say yes. When me and my wife were getting married we had some family that didn’t however agree with the pace we were taking our own relationship at. Some family and friends turned their backs on us in one of the happiest moments of our lives, and that just went to show who we could really trust and who was real.
How was the filming process and experience behind the video?
You know, I don’t have a video shot for this yet. but you all can bet on it.
The single comes off your new album Lost Boy – what’s the story behind the title?
Lost Boy is truly about me still finding myself. I’ve struggled with a lot of anxiety throughout my life and a lot of demons hanging over my head, and I’m on a journey of letting go of the toxic upbringing I had. Trying to find more of the light in life sort of speak. Basically, I’m lost but will find my way eventually.
How was the recording and writing process?
Pretty smooth sailing to be honest. I feel when you always write from the heart it comes out more natural. However I can’t be around people when i write. I have to be home by myself. I truly don’t know how some writers can write in the same room as each other. Seems to distracting. Recording process was also a good time. I have an amazing engineer that goes by the name ‘Kassette’ and we just hit the studio and get it done. We mainly did most of my tracking in two-song sessions. Kassette and I vibe well together so all in all it was super organic, I feel thats important.
As your music keeps progressing and getting much momentum – does that put any pressure on you as you work on new material or rather the opposite?
The exact opposite. If they like what I put out previously with my soul I put into it, I’m positive my fans will appreciate and respect what I put out next, time frame wise, as long as I’m putting all my heart and effort into the next piece.
What role does Sacramento play in your music?
A big one, especially the small town I grew up in “Shingle Springs”. Something nostalgic about it where I can channel my past and current emotions through my music. Sacramento will always be my favorite city.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
I get inspired by anything I am currently going through, or something I’ve experienced before.
Thats how I execute my craft.
What else is happening next in Ryan Rinauro’s world?
Well, I just had a daughter in May. Just about the best thing to ever happen to me. She’s got me wrapped around her finger. I am currently ready to start recording my next project, all my writing is done. You guys are the first to know this but I haven’t released the artwork or title yet, thats on the hush. So everyones just going to have to wait, tune in, and find out.
