Disaster relief personnel await their assignments in South Florida hotels for Dispatch to the Bahamas as hurricane season begins
ABACO ISLANDS, MARSH HARBOUR, BAHAMAS — JULY 31, 2020 // The headlines at the weather.com read, “Isaias Prompts Hurricane Watch for Parts of Florida Ahead of Strengthening in Bahamas, Track Up the East Coast.” In the Bahamas, hurricane conditions are expected on Friday. Accordingly, USPA Nationwide Security and their local affiliates in the Bahamas are gearing up for humanitarian as well as protective services for the islands this storm season. During Hurricane Dorian in 2019, USPA’s disaster relief security officers assisted Bahamian authorities, residents and businesses with static guarding, close protection and supply chain security as well as humanitarian services in Marsh Harbour.
According to The International Organization of Migration in May, “Our assessment of Abaco and Grand Bahama yielded insufficient shelter capacity for another storm on the two Dorian-ravaged islands.” The IOM went on to say that the islands were underprepared for the 2020 hurricane season.
Sondae Esposito, Vice President of USPA Nationwide Security told us, “While disaster relief is grounded in securing the location with a security presence, we also supply the workforces to rebuild roads and communities. Everyone from electricians to plumbers, we’re not just protecting, but rebuilding the Bahamas.”
