In addition to the instantly familiar Tesh cover, the Swish EP also features JR JR’s take on Kurtis Blow’s “Basketball” and an original, “Vertical.” Each track will be released on key dates of the NBA’s restart, with “Basketball” slated for August 17 (start of the NBA playoffs) and “Vertical” completing the EP on September 15 (beginning of the NBA conference finals).
A deluxe edition vinyl package that includes a basketball picture disc and JR JR x Champion basketball shorts and hoodie is available at JRJRMusic.com.
Discussing the inspiration for the Swish EP, JR JR’s Josh Epstein simply stated, “We love basketball. Who doesn’t? How could you not? This is our love letter to the game. Welcome back.”
With regards to “Roundball Rock (NBA on NBC Theme),” JR JR’s Daniel Zott added, “I remember the finals being hijacked by Black Eyed Peas and wishing for a return to the classic Tesh song. That sort of led to us wanting to bring it back. We’d heard ‘Let’s Get It Started’ one too many times and felt like people might want to hear John Tesh’s classic again.”
