INTERVIEW: Eveta Talks New Single “Higher” (Lyric Video Premiere)

Hi EVETA, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi guys! Thanks for having me, I love your site! I’ve been good, getting ready for the release of my new single, Higher.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Higher”?

It’s a Pop Conscious song. It’s about rising above hatred and every form of discrimination, so we can finally reach peace. It’s about humanity reaching a new level of consciousness. Connecting with nature, making a difference, becoming a game changer! You don’t need to be the CEO of a company to do so, let’s start by recycling. We’re waking up and I’m so happy about it!

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

My desire for all of us to reach higher inspired me to write it, I’m very optimistic and I think that drove me to write Higher with a positive message about the future yet an awareness that we aren’t quite yet there.

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

Because of the pandemic I couldn’t shoot! So I decided to do a Tribute Video for all the game changers out there pushing for humanity to rise up. Malala, Greta Thunberg and everyone that’s driven to make a change. I put images of natural disasters and I also put images of won battles (LGBTQ equality, Diverse people coming together to build a better world for us all). Because it’s not all bad out there, and I don’t think it’s fair to be so negative about the future. It takes the same amount of energy to be negative as it is to be positive and take action.

Why naming the album after this song in particular?

When I finished recording all the songs I thought of what the general message was. And Higher was that one song that encompasses everything I wanted to say with this EP. Diversity, Union, Love, Kindness, Being a Game Changer, standing up for yourself and for others, becoming the best version of yourself, being authentic and unapologetically YOU.

How was the recording and writing process?

I got in the studio with Producer Shayon Daniels and Songwriter India Carney. I came into the session with the idea in my head, I was in that mood. And they’re both very spiritual people too, so the magic happened pretty fast. In one session we had written the song, it was amazing! 2 weeks after I recorded it at the Black Eyed Peas studio in Atwater Village in Los Angeles, I believe this is my favourite song on the EP.

What role does Argentina play in your music?

A huge one! Argentina is a very diverse country, my dad is the son of Italian immigrants and my mom is Native Argentinian, a lot of europeans went to South America after WW2 so the country was a melting pot of cultures! I grew up listening to everything. I sang folk music in school but also loved American pop so much. My single Te Quiero is very much influenced by my Latino roots, which I couldn’t be prouder of. Also, growing up there made my move to Canada much easier, Toronto is one of the most diverse cities in the world, and I love that.

How does your time living between Canada and US influences your writing perspective?

It makes me connect with people from all kinds of backgrounds and that is invaluable to me. It influences my writing in the best way possible, it gets me closer to the mind openness I want to have.

What aspect of your own life did you get to explore on this record?

A lot of aspects because that’s what I want to have in my body of work. I explore my desires for a better world, my sexuality,  my struggles with being different, my self empowerment. Most of it is positive (or I shifted the experience into it being positive) that’s the state of mind I’m in right now.

Where else did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

It’s all about personal experiences for me when writing, I don’t see a point in not doing so! Again, self belief, fashion (and the dangers of materialism) empowerment and Love.

What else is happening next in EVETA’s world?

I’m releasing the EP later this year, videos, and hopefully I’ll be able to start performing live again!
