INTERVIEW: BRYE

Hi Brye, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been doing well! It’s been a weird summer but things have been good. Thank you for asking.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “LEMONS”?

Absolutely! Lemons is a song I wrote and produced all by myself back in January.

Did any event, in particular, inspire you to write this song?

I’ve gone through a crap ton of bullying in high school and I eventually reached a point where I was done.  So I decided to write about it.  I tend to use song writing as a form of therapy.

Any plans to release any sort of music video for the track?

For now we’ve got the lyrics video! The pandemic has really limited video production.   As of right now I’m more focused on trying to get more music out, but maybe in the future.

How was the recording and writing process?

It was casual. I sat on my bed and recorded the whole thing on a crappy USB mic I owned.  I combined the production process with the songwriting.  I used garage band and slowly interweaved the production and lyrics.

With your music getting such a big momentum, especially on social networks, do you take this in consideration when writing your music?

Absolutely, I try not to let it ruin my process but it definitely has had an impact on how I write now.  I think the bigger affect on my writing is the lack of connection with people through this time.  My focus has changed from relationships to my own feelings.

Does the new single mean we can expect any new material – how’s that coming along?

For sure!! We’ve got three things in the works and they’re going really smoothly. Working remotely has made it different but I’m getting used to it.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

It hasn’t been officially announced yet but we are planning to release an “official” version of LEMONS eventually, so that’s in the works! The original Demo version was put out fairly quickly so I think people will really like this new version as well.

What are some of the struggles you will explore in your upcoming music?

I would say the upcoming music is less struggle based, and more about healing and leaving toxic relationships. Reflecting on what I’ve learned.

Has the pandemic influenced your work in any way?

Yep! Can’t record in studios, can’t meet up with writers. Most of the work is done on zoom and it’s honestly been kind of weird.

What else is happening next in BRYE’s world?

Just a lot of writing and trying to enjoy my last summer before senior year!
