Mayday Parade have assembled a supergroup of friends to record a feel-good cover of The Beatles’ classic, “I Want To Hold Your Hand.” Mayday Parade – Derek Sanders, Brooks Betts, Alex Garcia, Jake Bundrick, and Jeremy Lenzo – called upon friends including The Maine’s John O’Callaghan, We The Kings’ Travis Clark, Dan Lambton (Formerly of Real Friends), Knuckle Puck’s Joe Taylor and Grayscale’s Collin Walsh. Mayday fans can also catch vocal cameos from Jeremy and Jake throughout the song. Derek shares that the idea for the collaboration came from a desire to give fans something fun and exciting in these trying times: “We wanted to take advantage of the extra time away from tour that we have and record a cover for all of you. ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand’ is one of the catchiest songs we could think of and it was a real pleasure to put this together.”
The video features self-captured footage of each of the bands from around the US. Jeremy explains: “We didn’t know how it was going to all come together, but we knew it was going to be fun. We wanted to make a video for it, but weren’t sure how to use the footage to make it all feel connected.” They eventually landed on the concept of using TV screens to make it all come together – check it out here!
Mayday Parade was about to embark on a North American Tour in support of their newly released single “It Is What It Is” in early April, just as the touring industry ground to a halt in the wake of COVID-19. After postponing the tour (which they have now been forced to cancel), the band has been keeping connected with fans by hosting a series of Happy Hours once a month on YouTube and Facebook Live featuring Mayday Trivia and Q&A sessions.
Last month, Mayday Parade was added to the upgraded and rescheduled Riot Fest lineup and confirmed for rescheduled dates for Hurricane Festival and Southside Festival in 2021. The band is excited to get back on the road when the time is right and plan to release new music in the coming months.
