Tinashe Releases New Single and Quarantine-Inspired Music Video, “Rascal (Superstar)”

Tinashe is announcing the release of her brand-new single, “Rascal (Superstar),” via Equity Distribution and streaming on all platforms HERE

To supplement the release of the new song, Tinashe also unveiled a music video for “Rascal (Superstar),” which you can watch HERE. In the video directed by Jasper Soloff, Tinashe tells the fantasy story of a socialite trapped in her own home with only her drone as companionship and her only link to the outside world are her fans – streaming in to watch her 24 hours a day. It is maddening, surreal, twisted, and strangely reminiscent of the experience of being in quarantine.

The release of “Rascal (Superstar)” marks the first taste of new Tinashe music since she dropped her critically-acclaimed album, Songs for You, in Nov. 2019.

“When we initially created this record, I went LIVE on Instagram from my home studio and played it,” Tinashe said. “The vibes and energy were so infectious that It felt right to share, spontaneously. Since that day, my fans have been asking me to release the record nonstop! In the spirit of “Songs For You” I knew I had to drop it for my fans. Thanks to Sage the Gemini for producing – we are on some West Coast braggadocios vibes that, frankly, we all deserve.”

Songs for You – which peaked in the Top-20 of Billboard’s Top R&B Albums Chart – featured standout songs like “So Much Better (feat. G-Eazy)” and “Save Room For Us (feat. MAKJ),” as well as additional collaborations with the likes of Ms Banks and 6lack. Most recently, she’s been part of several captivating remixes, including teaming up with ZHU on the “Die A Little Bit (remix)” and collaborating with THEY on the “Hopscotch (remix).”

Bucking the music industry’s customary Friday releases, Tinashe symbolically released Songs For You on a Thursday to emphasize her own independence. A nationwide tour, Tour For You, was scheduled to take place following the album’s release, with over half the dates sold out in the first week of sale. However, the tour was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
