Hi Synapson, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

We are doing well, thank you. Did a lot of studio during the quarantine. Now we look forward to be back on the road again but it’s still very shady.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Illuminar”?

The track features our Brazilian Friend Flavia Coelho. We already did a track together for our first album but we never released the track. So we’re very happy to share this new track 5 years later. The track is fresh and make us dance. It’s perfect for good summer vibes, which we feel we all need at the moment.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Flavia originally wrote on a different version. But during the quarantine we decided to do a new edit. The first version was too close with what we did on the last album and in the past. We really wanted to write a new chapter for Synapson that’s why we made this choice, fresher, more modern, a bit out of the lines too. Lucky us, Flavia approved it the first time she listened to it.

What was the process behind the video for the track?

The first idea was just to shoot Flavia over a green screen and do something like a « colors » studio session. With the contraints we had, I think everyone in the music industry had the same kind of ideas in the past weeks, using green screen in so many different ways. She is so powerful in front of the camera so we decided to bring some more life. Thanks to Ilan who worked on the video we got an amazing result and a real music video out of it.

What was it like to work with Flavia and how did that relationship develop?

Like I said before, we know her since a few years now. We met each other during festivals etc. The idea to make music together is not new but we had to find the time. And finally did it !

What did she bring up to the table?

She’s got a crazy flow. Flavia is one of the most versatile artist I know. She spend days in studio. It looks easy when you see her in studio or on stage but she is a hard working girl.

Do you tend to take a different approach when collaborating with someone else rather than working on your own?

Most of the time we think and compose the music for an artist we want to work with. Then we approach them with an instrumental demo. Thanks to the social networks most of the time we succeed to make it happened. But we always do the music first.

Did you draw inspiration from the Brazilian culture for this song?

Not specially. However we love Brazilian music so much and we like how the Portuguese sounds.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?

Yes sure ! We did many tracks so we’ll split in two parts. One this year and the other one in 2021.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

No releasing date yet. But we plan the end of this year. The whole project is about exploring the world for musical cultures.

Any plans to hit the road?

As the covid 19 is still around we had to cancel many gigs… But, we are working on a roadtrip with a van along the French west coast. The idea is to make stops in different cities along the coast, and make free dj sets there always at sunset, near the beach, and just spend a nice moment with some fans. We want to keep sharing. This is also a way to celebrate the 10 years of the band with our fans, as everything we planned has been cancelled so far.

What else is happening next in Synapson’s world?

Stuck in a studio for the moment. We work on many demos and try to finish all the track. We just finished a track with Pongo with is coming in august. So stay tuned !
