Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Not too bad. We’re rehearsing with masks. That sums it up.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Exchange Value”?
We wrote several songs for our album. And this one just sort of felt like our pop one a bit . Even though we are pretty far from that usually. We tried to build this song up, but not get too heavy at the end. Always reminded me a little of Radiohead. But others may see it differently.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Just happened, writing chords on the guitar. The title was inspired by our friend Renata who was studying Persian poetry.
Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?
We have a video in the works, but not for this track.
The single comes off your new album A Landmark, Not A Beacon – what’s the story behind the title?
Wow. Never thought we would have to explain. Well, it comes from the theoretical physicist Oppenheimer describing Einstein. Oppenheimer felt Einstein was washed up and he was kind of right. Einstein was a landmark. But then progress continued. Wow nerdy right?
How was the recording and writing process?
We wrote songs for about 8 months. Then we recorded mostly live in one day. With added textures on day 2.
What role does Oregon play in your music?
I’d say the rain always creates a mood, even if it’s not the one we desire.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
We are all into music. We just love to create new songs in new times and we always try to push ourselves into new territory.
What else is happening next in Violetera’s world?
We are currently writing a new EP. I think it’s called Primrose. It’s 4 tracks. Hopefully it’s out by October 2020. It would make us happy to release an LP and an EP in the same year. That’s the goal. And our friend is helping to create a music video from our LP. Other then that… Staying safe and seeing what comes next.
