Hey Scuba, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
I can’t complain. My fam(ilies) good, I’m good, we’re maintaining. I hope all is well with you and your fam(ily).
From all the songs out there, why did you choose to somewhat cover “Sweet Lady”?
If you listen closely to the song I’m telling you what’s going on out here (in New Jersey) and how to approach a woman.
What was the approach you went after with this song?
It’s already my day-to-day life. I’ve been in and out of every scene in New Jersey. The nightlife scene in New Jersey has been my relm for over six years now.
Any plans to release any sort of video for the single?
Of course. COVID-19 is throwing a curveball in my drip. I had a museum rented out to tear s*** up for “Sweet Baby”, but had to postpone everything. However, I recently dropped a visual for my single “No Curfew”.
The single comes off your new album The Dive – what’s the story behind the title?
It’s my life. Welcome to my drip (smiles). It’s basically New Jersey nightlife from my point of view. The narrative is real because I’m always out on the scene. Listeners will definitely see and feel me on this project.
How was the recording and writing process?
I can’t lie, I normally jot things down while I’m in the club. I think of things in the moment, but I rarely write cause I prefer to go with the flow of the mood or environment I’m in.
What role does NJ play in your music?
New Jersey is me, man. I feel like we have a dope wave. If you pay attention to some of the trends in black culture, alot of it started here. Plus, I have good relationships with club owners and promoters that make me feel at home. Shout out to them because the experiences they create inspires my music.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
I’m a spirit that’s all I can say. Some songs come to me in meditation or sleep.
Any plans to hit the road?
Yes, once COVID-19 subsides. We’re planning some things overseas. I definitely want to meet my fans there and throughout the world.
What else is happening next in Yvng Scuba’s world?
We’re dropping like birds in the park after they get fed, it’s time to eat (laughs)!
