INTERVIEW: Britain’s Got Talent’s Youngest Golden Buzzer Giorgia Borg

Hi Giorgia, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “10”? 10 is a song about the realities that children face on a daily basis about not being heard due to their age. Adults underestimate the intelligence & power of children’s abilities.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

When I was 7 years old I got into writing songs. One sentence that I wrote about this boy who I had a crush on was ‘you look at me but see right through me’ because he had no idea how I felt about him. This sentence was then used in 10. We had the music first & we were trying to figure out what to write about so by using that sentence we turned it into what it is now.

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

Oh yes, very very soon.

How was the recording and writing process?

It was amazing, I work with a friend of mine, a local songwriter known as Muxu. He cowrote 10 with me & has helped me a lot with songwriting. Re the recording, it was done by another local genius Peter Borg who reproduced the music of 10 & the experience was incredible because I got to put my input in it too.

What role does Malta play in your music?

The Maltese people are very proud so when someone Maltese makes it internationally; you get the support from all locals. That helps a lot because when I meet people on the street they boost me into doing even better.

How would you say your time in BGT changed you as an artist?

Bgt gave me the  international exposure that I didn’t have before so I will always be thankful for that especially Aleshia for seeing something in me this pressing the Golden Buzzer.

Did this in some way affect the way you approach music?

Not really, music was always in me. It was & will always be my greatest passion.

Did you feel any pressure as you were putting this song together or rather the opposite? Everything happened so smoothly that I didn’t feel any pressure whatsoever.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes, now that 10 is out I already have a brand new single ready for release. It just needs some polishing. Another song is also in the making.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Not yet because I want to make sure that everything is done professionally. It’s not worth it rushing things.

Any plans to hit the road?

I would love to but it’s not easy especially for my age. I can’t do it alone yet, however would love to one day join some amazing singer/s & do a tour together. When I’m older I will definitely hit the road.

What else is happening next in Giorgia Borg’ world?

Again, since I’m only 12yrs old I have to focus a lot on school so for now its school, songwriting & releasing singles. I hope to be able to do more soon.
