Gasoline Tequila deliver vibrant single “Indulgent Fool”

Gasoline Tequila have been wowing audiences since 2016 with their charismatic and emotive guitar-focused songs. The indie rockers, who are noted for their Flamenco-driven rhythms, strike magic again in the vibrant single “Indulgent Fool”. New York City-based, this enigmatic and charismatic band is led by Massimo Lusardi. “Indulgent Fool” is an exhausting master class in emotional guitar playing with spicy flavoring.

The song starts out like something momentous is happening. A flirtatious look, a strumming of energy starts to prime the listener for something bigger, something brighter. Lusardi leads the way for the guitars to roam like a pack of horses, the tempo and the avalanche of sounds is zestful. It’s a light sound, though. It never feels oppressed or too rock heavy. The song meanders a bit, before it runs into a full speed gallop.

The song has many hints of Spanish Flamenco guitar, but the overall music bed sounds very modern. What I enjoyed most is the constant feeling of elevation. The guitars are so tight, so in tandem, that the wall of sound they create, goes from thunder to lightning to flying. The same way Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” has a stirring guitar bed, so does the onslaught of rapid fire guitar riffs in “Indulgent Fool”. What world has Lusardi created for his listeners? It’s an amalgamation of urban flare and vintage romance. The night seems to be one for the taking, as the early hours of daylight creep upon us like a countdown.

“Indulgent Fool” relies on guitars – there isn’t any brass, or even piano. The slight variances of percussion is created from the tapping and lower chords on the guitars. This landscape sound sounds bigger than life, a city of lights and sparkling alleys around each corner. Listeners should close their eyes, sit back and lose themselves in the dream. In some ways, “Indulgent Fool” is a love letter to New York City. The City That Never Sleeps is the ideal backdrop for a song and its main character that travels the city’s crowded streets, embracing the trouble and lust for life. As a listener, I kept imaging reds, oranges, and yellows – the colors that emerge are bright and primary. The song progressed, and a bit more blacks and dark blues cascade over the ever-changing canvas. One might also feel like they are in the corner of a dive bar, watching a budding romance. It’s tantalizing and voyeuristic.

Gasoline Tequila’s discography includes The Good Dirty, a nine-track odyssey that celebrates all attributes of the guitar’s appeal. 2019’s “Premonition” and “Written in Code”. The band’s music has been featured in several Netflix projects, including Orange Is The New Black. They also collaborated with New York Fashion Week. The common core and theme to Gasoline Tequila is the band’s amazing way of making the listener feel as if they’ve never heard the guitar before, each song is beyond unique. I swear, you’ve never heard the guitar played quite like this. “Indulgent Fool” is a fantastic song and this summer’s hit.
