Hi Richitta, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Thank you for the opportunity! I am doing great, I can’t complain.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Quit Playin”?
The song is about standing your ground and be willing to walk away if someone is not treating you the way you want to be treated.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
I was inspired by a few bad relationships from my past in which the guys would say one thing but their actions would tell another story. I didn’t feel valued. I had to learn that even if I cried while I walked away from certain relationships the important thing is to make the choice that is truly best for me.
Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?
I released the lyric video on July 1st. It was my first time doing a video and it was an awesome experience. I had a great group of people! In the video you will also see me standing my ground and not allowing someone to get away with lies or deceit.
How was the recording and writing process?
The recording and writing process were the best. I said what I needed to say and in the way I wanted to say it, no filters. Music is my happy place, so anytime I’m recording or writing it is bliss for me.
What role does Chicago play in your music?
It inspires me to be authentic and show all sides of me. Chicago has beauty but it also has pain, much like how I see myself.
How has Aaliyah and Lauryn Hill influenced your writing?
I always loved Aaliyah and Lauryn’s hip-hop and R&B style. Aaliyah inspires me to take chances and not be afraid to try new things with my music. Lauryn serves as a constant reminder to write from my heart.
What is it about the 90s that you find so fascinating?
For one I was born in ‘91. Also, some of the best music and TV shows were created during that time. I often go back and research the ‘90s—it was an era of possibilities. It inspires and excites me.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
I am in the process of recording new music. I am rapping more on upcoming songs but also have more soulful R&B tracks I’m working on as well. My plan is to release more singles this year and next year I want to do an EP.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
I have two songs that I am stuck between, but once I choose, I’ll solidify a release date.
Any plans to hit the road?
I hope to do some shows soon.
