Best-known as FM’s guitarist, Jim Kirkpatrick has also been onstage right-hand man to former Whitesnake guitarist and hit songwriter Bernie Marsden since 2006, recently collaborating with Bernie and several members of the late Rory Gallagher’s band on a tribute to the legendary Irish guitarist.

The ‘Ballad Of A Prodigal Son’ single was written by Jim Kirkpatrick, and on it Jim plays guitars, vocals, and percussion. He’s joined on this particular number by Scott Ralph  (drums),  Chris Cliff (bass), Jem Davis (keys) — just some of the impressive line-up of talented friends and colleagues Jim has drawn together to contribute to the album, which vividly showcases where he stands today as a guitarist and songwriter.

’Ballad of a Prodigal Son’ is a blues-rock outing with some songs co-written with friends and some fine contributions from many of my colleagues..” Jim explains, “There’s a whole host of well-known guests playing and contributing to the album which is very rocky, bluesy and with LOTS of guitar playing!” I’m hoping that my fans and audience will love it.”

“I can’t wait to hear the reaction to my forthcoming video and single,” he says, “’Ballad of A Prodigal Son’ is my very first solo single and video and I’m really pleased with the results!

“The song is partly about me (the prodigal son) returning to solo work after such a long time,” explains Jim, “It’s also partly about a friend and colleague of mine. We had great fun working and playing in America years back, where we got up to all sorts!

“It’s been a long time coming so I hope that you all like it.”

The video shows Jim playing with gusto in a rustic garage/barn-like setting and offers a chance to appreciate some of Jim’s fast, intricate guitarwork in close-up.
