INTERVIEW: Haska

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

We’re good, thanks for having us!

Can you talk to us more about your single “Madan”?

Sure. We’d been huge fans of the Martin Solveig version for years and always wanted to do our own version. There were only small parts of the vocal available, but it was always our intention to work with the full song even if that meant waiting.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

After we signed our deal, our team managed to get hold of the full vocals. That’s all the inspiration we needed, it was a dream come true! Initially we weren’t thinking of it as a single, but everyone seemed to love it and we’re really happy with how it’s been received.

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

There is an official animated video on youtube.

There’s a couple of fan made videos as well if you look for them.

How was the recording and writing process?

Relatively simple in the end, but actually a bit daunting to start with. It’s such a unique and special vocal, where do you start? We knew we wanted something upbeat and musical to support the vocals, so we just did our thing and it came together quite easily once we got going.

Speaking of collaborations the song was remixed by ABSOLUTE – how did this remix come about?

We were big fans, love the 90’s sound and vibes he achieves so well.  He was one of a few suggestions, so we were very happy to get him.

Was there much input from you guys around his remix, or did you just let him get on and do his thing?

Absolutely let him do his thing! Remixes should be about letting the remixer express themselves in their own unique way.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than working on your own?

Haska is quite self contained, we do all the production, so the collaborations are mainly with vocalists. With this track we were obviously working around Salif’s existing vocals, but on other tracks we sometimes send off instrumentals for people to write to – we also like to get in the studio with vocalists when the opportunity arises.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes there will definitely be more to come. Plenty in the works, first up is the Ejeca remix of Madan out 3rd July. We’re currently finishing up our next single which we hope to have out in the not too distant future.

What else is happening next in Haska’s world?

We’ve just put out a remix of a track called ‘Look Like Money’ by Ayo Beatz. Something a little different, we had a lot of fun making it!
