Every child has some sort of dream to do something that distinguishes them from other people. This dream then becomes an aim, with the sole motive to be successful by taking their passions forward. As time passes, either they leave their dream behind and carry on with something different, or they become more passionate about it and decide on pursuing their dream as a career. But the diversity in professions observed today in the world is due to people having different ideas and visions about their careers.

That is when the real work begins- when one realizes that there is nothing more important than achieving that one specific goal they have set for themselves. More than half of the population gives up halfway to fulfilling their dream, but true passion is only recognized when a person spends prolong hours in acquiring something they have set their heart on. True success can never be achieved without working hard and giving your best, and there is no better example to be given than the glorious, Don Yount.

Don Yount was born in Davenport, Iowa on 17 August, 1968. From a very young age, the boy was fond of speed, racing, and automobiles. The boy used to admire the cars, and the amount of speed they’d posses, spending elaborate hours on watching motorsports. It wasn’t long before he recognized that his true passion lay in competing on a race track.

But soon, reality hit, and with time, he decided to step in the business field. He was hired as a loan officer in 1993 at Financiers Mortgage. Don Yount dedicated a year to the firm with the dream to start his own company. He fulfilled his goal in 1994 when he finally launched his company, Dallas Residential Mortgage.

Shortly after the company was launched, the name was changed to Southwest Funding. As of today, the company offers FHA, conventional, VA, and USDA loan services

Even though the dream to become a race car driver had been eclipsed with the pressure to have a stable career, Don Yount always knew that deep down, and he always wanted to make his mark as a race car driver.

Better late than never, Don Yount made his debut on Road Atlanta with Radical Sports car in 2009. He even took part in the three races that were held from 2006 to 2008. During the early times, he thought it was best to keep the races as a side interest.

After appearing in total eleven races, Don Yount built a racing team in 2014 that is when the Youn Motorsports took life. That year, he entered the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) Development Series. The event was a turnover in Don Yount’s career. He came second in the Lites 1 Masters class, just 21 points behind the leader, John Falb. He was able to participate in the series for an entire year as the recession time had come to an end, and this company was back at a stable ground. Don stated, “It was something I always wanted to do…; the series was well worth the time and the effort and the money if I had the time. It was that kind of year, and we put a little bit more commitment into it. I put together a team of a couple of guys that I thought would make it fun and at the same time competitive. So we went ahead and committed.”

Youn Motorsports is a single-car team that works under a budget that is lower than most of the competitors, but the only thing that matter to Don is the ability to fulfill his dream. Don says, “I’m the only one with a single trailer and a truck pulling it, but at the same time we’re out there with the same intensity as everyone else but with a much smaller budget, and we’re out there, and we’re laughing and having a good time. It’s got to be fun at the same time, or we’re not going to do it.”

Yount’s father drives the truck that carries the car to the races, and the team is now more like a family. The team members include Don Yount himself, Kyle Masson, Robert Masson, and Cameron Cassels. Don uses a Number 38 Performance Tech Motorsports car to the racing events.

As of today, Don Yount has participated in 72 races from 2006 to 2020, securing one win in 2018 and 8 podium finishes in 2015 and 2017. Don’s life carries a lesson for all those who are looking forward to taking their passions to greater heights!
