Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Very happy to be here! We’re doing quite well how are you guys?

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Still Believe”?

Absolutely. ‘Still Believe’ is a song we’ve had in our back pocket for years now. It was originally written towards the end of our run as an east coast local band in late 2017. Thematically, the song is a reference to over-coming the feeling of loss in any given situation. That feeling could be losing a loved one, the ending of a relationship, or simply overcoming past trauma. Whatever the case may be, there is always a glimmer of hope in any dark situation, a light of the of the tunnel; if only for a brief moment.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

It was more like a culmination of events that led to this song’s inception. There have always been a long string of tragedies involving our hometown and upbringing. We experienced death at a very young age when our best friend James Sun, who the band is actually named after, passed just after his 15th birthday. He was far from the only person we lost on our journey these past few years, but it was through this pain a desire to feel better was born. This song’s inception comes from dealing with our past but also learning how to move forward when everything feels hopeless.

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

Yes. An acoustic video performance for the time being, but there may also be a new music video on the horizon in the near future as well.

How was the recording and writing process?

Unbelievably difficult. We initially recorded this song at the height of the COVID-19 panic back in April 2020. We laid down the groundwork but then had to video chat back in forth when in production about how we wanted things fine tuned. There was even a day our lead singer Steven had to lay down some background vocals, and since we were all isolating at this time our producer “Zeus” had to place the microphone outside the studio in the parking lot to avoid any direct contact. This also happened in the middle of the protests going on in downtown Hollywood so there police helicopters flying around and we only had about 30 seconds per take before we had to stop and wait several minutes for it to pass again. This song was born out of pain, it was only fitting we recorded it this way in the end…

What role does LA play in your music?

Being surrounded by the best of the best forces you to another level much quicker than you ever would reach in your hometown. We will never forget where we started in central Virginia, but moving to LA made us not only better musicians, but better songwriters in general. It was the push we needed to make something like “Still Believe” or “Girl in Blue” in their current form.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

…yes. This will be our best yet by far.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Fall 2020. That’s all we can say for now…

Any plans to hit the road?

2021 when this living nightmare is over 100%. Until then we’re doing the best we can to make content and grow our community even more.

What else is happening next in Animal Sun’s world?

A music video for another recent single titled “Without You”, an acoustic performance video for “Still Believe”, and a brand new EP coming this fall. Don’t worry, we’re just getting started.
